Forums - Sony - Next God of War main game rumors

Tagged games:

We already got from Nate that the next GoW will be centered around Kratos second wife and mother of Atreus, Faye.

Now the rumors for the Faye God of War game is that she and Tyr will be the main characters and we'll see the journey of Tyr through the various mythologies already teased in the two mainline Nordic mythology games. Specially Asains ones like China and Japan.

Also it has been said that Merlin is/will reside in a talking sword in that universe, and that a gelatinous cube will be our companion.

That's honestly a wild rumor/leak.

I really hope we have Kratos going to Asia as well because it would be so stupid if when the series finally go there is just without him.

You lost me at "a gelatinous cube will be our companion". Cubes should be solid, dry and tough.

Sounds a bit weird that Kratos would not be the main character.

Do you really don't want to squeeze it?

I think this is a spin-off rather than a main game, but I guess you meant that this is an actual big game rather than something like Sons Of Sparta.
I don't mind this at all, or even those rumors, although the cube as a companion sounds weird. Why that, of all possible things? GoW is not about D&D as far as I know.
I'd love to play as Faye as well, she was mostly "tell, don't show" in the previous games and was just hoisted on us already dead to begin with. Almost felt like something was cut from the game. It may have been the right call in terms of the tone and the focus of those games, but it would be nice to see her in another thing.
Tyr as well, I'd like to see his travels myself.

I mean, that sounds terrible. Most people wouldn't have played the DLC of GoW Rag, so only know the story in it, which also means Tyr being a main character feels off. He's honestly not a note worthy character and from what we got is very dull.

They should just do a Atreus spin off with him visiting these places, just age him up, give him a mythical special sword of some kind and let him experience these things.

Hmm, pie.

It's a prequel, made by Santa Monica and directed by Cory Balrog which has directed God of War 2 and 4. It still can be kinda like a spinoff because it'll change the main character and gameplay, but I think calling it a prequel is more accurate, it is pretty much like Ascension. It's their next big game.

I think Faye is way more interesting than Atreus to be honest, but to me God of War needs to have Kratos as the main playable character. It would be fine if this was a DLC for Ragnarok, even if it is decently big, but I do understand Cory wanted to more deeply present her and Tyr's stories and the DLC status and potential lenght, even standalone, would immediatly diminish it.

I can see a lot of great things happening with this game, Faye was really strong, respected and well connected, at some point she knows the future, we can see Kratos and her meet (and fight), and see some of the giants before they died, and Tyr's journeys can be really great to see too.

I'm sure this will set up for God of War 6 and the rest of the franchise with the multi mythos approach, so even as I'm really sad it's not a Kratos game, I'm hyped to see what they can deliver with it. It would be even better if Kratos going through Egypt like he did in the comics would be covered in this game too.

Still, not playing with Kratos... I really can't be ok with it, for now at least lol.

I pretty much disagree with all your takes.

Tyr lore is great, that's exactly why he can be expanded. He is one of the biggest pivot points of the plot of both Nordic games, so he is extremely note worthy.

And I really, really don't want a game with Atreus, not that I wanted one with Faye either, but she is a lot more interesting than him. And I'm not an Atreus hater either, the boy already shared the main spot for 2 whole games, we don't need this franchises revolving around him, Faye at least is still a fresh thing.

All in all, Kratos should be the main character and that's it, but I'm at least more hopeful for this game based on the current rumors than the old rumors about Atreus.

Atreus will come back, he left so he can come back, but hopefully when he does he'll be a good plot device and a side character, rather than the main character.

Wasn't Bluepoint's game the one with Atreus? But that was Greek based mythos. But I tend to agree that I'd rather this was just Atreus rather than Faye. But this is Barlog's game apparently, so I'm in regardless.
