Forums - Sales - Rockstar data for GTAV Online and RDR2 Online started to pop up

Tagged games:

Since big outlets are reporting it, it should be ok to talk about it here too.

I'll comment over the content instead of copy pasting the tables but you can find them at the source.

The leaked data hackers recently stole from Rockstar started to be shared, and some stuff is insane.

GTA Online has an average of 10 million players a week. Most games can't even sell that.

Regarding monthly active users for the online, PS5 is by far the most played and profitable platform for it, PS4 is the second most played comfortably but average revenue is third, only a bit over XBO, which is fourth on both, when it has almost double the player count. XBS is third in most played but second on most profitable.

PC is fifth in both metrics and a LOT down regarding profits, which makes easy to see why Rockstar doesn't really care that much to release their games there day one, even when they'll sell ridiculously well, the live service aspects doesn't hold nearly as well.

The same kind of data regarding Red Dead Online is also shared in the source, and nowhere near as impressive as expected, which is probably why Rockstar didn't support it for nearly as long.

Around the Network

And this, my dear good friends, is the primary reason for why it takes a million years for a new GTA to release.

GTA online is to blame for R*'s lack of output compared to their PS2/3 era.

Pretty shocking how low GTA Online revenue is on PC.

Making about $500 million a year but only around $15 million from PC.

With numbers like that, releasing just about anything else could lower the profits rather than increasing them

Welp! Another delay incoming

We reap what we sow

This is also why Sony pursues these type of games with their devs. Just 1 success out of 20 and then you don't have to release games anymore.

Interesting, 34.7% of GTAV players are on PS4/Xbox One still. Which probably puts to bed the idea that "everyone who wants GTAVI already has a current gen console"
