Forums - Microsoft - Which do you consider more successful, OG Xbox or Xbox Series, and why?

Which do you consider more successful?

Original Xbox 34 89.47%

Xbox Series 4 10.53%

Total:38

Yeah, again people that voted for the original XBox definitely never owned a Series X or Series S it's a way more successful console no matter how you look at it. It sold more and is still selling has a better software library that still will get supported for at least three more years and has a vastly superior controller since the original controller for the XBox the duke was pretty garbage and just as bad as the original PS3 sixaxis controller for the PS3.

Yeah, nope the four people that voted for the original XBox need to take of their nostalgia googles and I'm pretty sure they did not own both consoles.

This is a subjective topic.
Thus your opinion isn't the only right opinion that everyone needs to conform with.

One could argue, without the original Xbox, we wouldn't have gotten Halo, Fable, Forza...  Which became tent-pole microsoft franchises.
It also laid the groundwork for the Xbox 360 and Xbox Live.

Xbox Series for me is just an extension of the Xbox One, UI and majority of the games are the same, just prettier.  It's a boring console. It's got zero exclusives.
It's not even showcasing games that push the hardware.

Original Xbox? It did a lot for the industry that influenced both Sony and Nintendo to various degrees.

If we however define "success" purely on a monetary basis, then the Xbox Series wins hands down.

Just curious, if you never owned a xbox back in the day but you do know, and have a xbox series(or a ps5 for that matter they are kinda the same with only ps5 having more exclusives)

And that person still voted OG xbox?

Does that lame excuse of "nostalgia goggles) still aply?

Hello there.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

In the long term or the short term? The OG was a loss leader that allowed XBox to create a position for itself in the already very competitive console market, it was building up for things to come. The Series has made more money than the OG, sure, but who is optimistic for the future of this brand?

You know it deserves the GOTY.

OG Xbox over Series easily. It was the generation that made me an Xbox fanboy where’s Series guarantees I’ll never touch another Xbox again. It also had a significantly better software lineup which included even to this day some of my favourite games. OG Xbox was the golden age of Xbox.

Ride The Chariot | ‘26 Completion

Original, because it had an identity, and was not a generic box like the series.

From a console perspective the OG brought Otogi, Panzer, jade empire, kotor, PGR, valkyrie, morrowind, jsrf, halo was actually amazing and not average, ninja gaiden, etc.

Basically the OG felt l worth owning. The series seems redundant because it does nothing that I can play elsewhere.

With the OG I had to have one.  With the series, couldn't be more disinterested.

Switch 2

Welp, that's a pretty decisive outcome; despite selling around 10 million more consoles, almost 90% of voters as of this post consider the Xbox Series a less successful console than the original Xbox.

I would tend to agree on a strategic level, it's like one of those battles historically where side a may have lost more men/ships/etc, but ultimately they achieved their strategic goals.

Why do people ask obvious questions ?
It is a good achievement for a first time console to sell 24 millions.
And an awful one to sell 30 millions after Xbox 360 had sold 85 millions.

I have never owned any Xbox and it is by far the brand I have the least experience with. I feel there where more reasons to own an original Xbox back in gen six than it is to own a series in the current gen. It did some of the things best back then compared to the competition.
