Thanks for the post.

thanks for embedding the charts

I think some of these charts deserve their own threads.

Kirby Wii, Animal Crossing Wii, Disaster: Day of crisis and kirby ultra super deluxe see the sun this year at least in Japan.

Those charts were awesome. *heart* Iwata. The vgc team of analysts should take note.

Nice find, thanks!

But 3rd party games don't sell on Nintendo platforms...

Maybe you should read your own signature FishyJoe ;) Japan data for completeness sake:

While the third party economy in America and Europe is healthy, Japan really isn't looking great for third parties (this is hurt by Mario + Sonic being published by Nintendo in Japan, I assume). However, the same is true for all other consoles, so it's not saying much, no third party companies seem to be finding any success in japan on the consoles (handhelds, however, are a different story)

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

Way to troll buddy.  Did you even bother listening to the presentation?

The whole point was that the DS went through the same thing at first, because third-parties are slower to figure out what to do on the system in Japan, so the fact that the same happens to the Wii is actually normal.

What can you say? The Japanese love Nintendo software. This was true even before the Wii.

Thanks to Fishy Joe, OMGWTFBBQ and DKll we get the WHOLE PICTURE.

Wii Software doing well overseas in the first year and a half.
Not so well in Japan in the first couple of years.
Following the same trend as the DS, it should improve after 2 years.

Did anyone watch the presentation?

I find Iwata's assessment of Wii Ware fascinating....

He essentially says that he misses the days when one or two guys could develop a concept like Tetris and make a huge amount of money distributing/selling it. Wii Ware he says, was designed as his solution, from a development perspective, to allow talented individuals to go back to a scenario where they can make whatever they want.

Thats admirable.
