Forums - Gaming - Nvidia reveals DLSS 5 , essentially applies AI filter to games in real time.

This reveal showed me just how much of a boomer gamer I’m becoming. “This technological revolution is coming with or without you” - X comments

I like my video games to still look like video games. I don’t want uncanny or practically identical to real life visuals.

It's not even really a boomer thing, lots of people from all walks of life are sick and tired of having AI slop shoved down their throats 24/7 with all its uncanny ugliness, scammy artifice, and associated baggage.

Plenty of young people I know have AI fatigue and find it to be gross.

Still images look a little uncanny on human faces, but on movement it looks fine to me.

I want to see other videos showing the effects on things that dont belong to our everyday life, like monsters, mythological creatures, etc.. Even real life animals are a no show in this video (I know theres an elf in the video, but they are too much human alike to end my curiosity)

We reap what we sow

This Leon toggle looks great in my opinion.

I love the chiaroscuro-like effect the lighting brings to his existing design, which already had some of that.

I think the 2nd and 3rd image are also clearer examples of DLSS 5.
The 1st image of street scene clearly has further changes in eye color, lip color, face geometry / posing compared to non DLSS 5 baseline.
So viewing those as coming from DLSS 5 when the 2nd and 3rd images don´t do that is clearly erroneous.
The 2nd and 3rd image show clearly the impact of DLSS 5 itself just on lighting.

I’ve noticed technology has to be organically adopted. No one likes getting strong armed into adopting something that’s being forced on them.

This whole AI push across the industry has felt like such an industry plant and is forcing inorganic growth across the board. Not just DLSS 5. Which is why there’s so much genuine pushback. Truly feels like we’re heading towards a massive bubble burst. Nvidia one of the biggest ones that would be affected by such a burst.

Pretty much; companies have wasted such immense sums of money on AI/LLM on the dream of being able to fire all their workers, and now they're trying to justify all that spending by forcing it on people through adding it to the software people already use without their consent, so they can claim that "look, our AI has x million users" when majority of those "users" didn't ask for it and had it pushed on them.

It is clearly early days with this technology so the results are mixed but it is already impressive and has a ton of potential. As mentioned it already makes a very nice impact on Starfield, the shot with the two characters in particular looks pretty insane and it's probably gonna look even better when DLSS 5 releases later this year.

In the coming years game developers will be able to use this to make games look way closer to how they actually want them to look heavily reducing how much they have to compromise the visuals which is really cool. If this is equivalent to DLSS 1 upscaling in its current form then 2-3 versions from now it's probably gonna be wildly good and something lots of people routinely use.

Unfortunately though a lot of people act irrationally over anything AI related currently so there's a major lack of nuance in reactions to this. For example the amount of genuine anger in response is absurd since it's a completely optional feature that developers can implement to their liking or ignore and people can turn on or ignore in the games that use it so there's no reason to be bothered by it since it harms nothing. So many reactions to this are gonna age just as poorly as the people who derided DLSS back in 2019.

It's actually quite rational to dislike AI/LLMs as their contributions to society and the world are overwhelmingly negative.
