Forums - Microsoft - Project Helix - The next generation of Xbox

This looks really good. My first take was that they would drop the console aspect altogether but being able to truly play series and 360 games on this thing would be amazing. And then access to all PC stores…. So color me wrong on this one, I definitely doubted that.

I heard rumors that EPIC wants to bring their store to the next Xbox.

I don't know if we would see Steam there, since... Well, Valve will release the Steam Machine, and that would be a bit weird.

The lead up to a new gen is exciting; gonna be cool to see what they do with Helix, I expect it will be a very expensive machine targeted at their hardcore fanbase as that's about all they have left at this point, but that's not inherently a bad thing, it could be that there's a niche for a premium system.

Who knows? A lot of people thought Nintendo was done for after the Wii U, and they bounced back in a very strong way with the Switch. If Helix is affordable, and attractive, like an alternative for people who wants PC quality games without having to build an RIG, it could do very good numbers.

Asha, the new leader, said something about "Return to Xbox", and this could mean a lot of things.

Yeah, I wanna be optimistic. I've enjoyed Xbox's consoles and I believe that having more choices benefits the consumer.

I wonder if this has anything to do with why Sony is planing on releasing less or none single player first party games on PC from now on.
Some people was saying it was Valve, but imo its both Valve and MS but more so MS and this new Xbox.
Sony isnt going to want Xbox players playing their games that maybe even looking better on another console..
But imo this is whats coming and i said it all along. and one point its going to be about the stores not the plastic box you play on.

I think it had something to do with it yes.

Sony releasing fewer games on PC, and the confirmation that the next Xbox will run PC games at the same time... Too much of a coincidence if you ask me.

Welp, even if they stop now, it looks like we'll be able to play existing titles like The Last of Us, God of War, Horizon, Spiderman, etc on an Xbox console.

What a time to be alive.

I'm also wondering if with this "Return to Xbox" plan from Asha we will see less/no more Xbox games on Playstation and Nintendo.

If they learned something with the Series X is that even if you have a very good machine, you won't sell it if it has no exclusives. A bunch of Xbox fans around the world are into Asha's Twitter account asking for Xbox/PC only games for Helix.

Hm...this might end up as actual XBOX console (with full backward compatibility), that can play PC games as well, not the other way around.

If they ditch Steam ports and launch 1st party titles only on XBOX store (and maybe even "convince" some of 3rd party publishers to do the same, at least in time-limited fashion), Helix behaves as usual console, with extra feature being access to Steam and all other PC games to make some of PC audience buy into it more easily.
