So, Switch 2 Requiem sold a quarter of the PS5 version's numbers for opening week. Not terrible, but I was hoping for a bit more from the Switch 2 version. Maybe positive word of mouth will help its legs a little since Switch 2 is the hot system and Requiem is so good on it but we'll see.

Apparently it's sold out. If Capcom provided more stock physical sales would be higher. Any case in Japan most RE fans are on PS since that's where the series always releases on. It will take time for Capcom to build up the franchise on Switch 2.

That's right, that's why pre-orders exist. If the pre-orders are low at retail then you're going to get low shipments to retail. Capcom saw those numbers and based their initial shipment low on a console with over 4.5M install base in Japan based on the data they had.

Tsujimoto and Capcom don't really care about retail since they have over 90% digital ratio and the less physical they ship the less % they have to split with retail overall.

And yet the provided stock was insufficient, showing that demand on Switch 2 exceeded estimates.

Physical is still very much relevant in Japan and on Switch 2.

I will modify the no audience to very little audience if it helps your understanding of it.

It may have been insufficient by a small amount but that audience would have bought it digitally if they couldn't get the physical sku anyways since Nintendo and 3rd parties are pushing GKC's so much and that's basically digital regardless. Plus Capcom wants digital anyways.

Nintendo fans are not afraid to Pre-order the games they are interested in. The fact that so little of them preordered this game lets us know that the audience is not there or is very small at best.

For years here on this site, Nintendo fans were using COMG! and preorder data to hype up certain games so they know what they are doing.

You can disagree all you want but the numbers this week back that up. If this was Chibi Resident Evil and you had to run around collecting zombie parts then the Japan Switch audience would have ate that up, pardon the pun.

It's not "very little" though; you're framing it as if it sold like 10k.

Around 40k physical only, in a few days, limited by sold out stock, isn't bad sales when Capcom have not cultivated mainline RE on Nintendo platforms since the Gamecube, so this is essentially starting from scratch in growing an audience.

Pretty much this. Dragon Quest 1&2 HD, Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, and Octopath 0 all sold more on Switch 2 than PS5 despite the lower install base. The fanbase for those series was built up on Switch whereas Resident Evil Capcom has to build it up. Take Atelier, the Switch used to be the worst selling platform for the series (it's first game sold even less than the PS Vita version at launch) now Switch is the best selling platform. Sonic historically sells most on Nintendo systems. Capcom just has to keep at it and the Resident Evil series will get bigger and bigger on Nintendo systems.

Curl, respectfully, stop giving this user the attention he craves. If you know his post history, you should know to leave and let be. No point in encouraging him.

Fair point, just another gimmick account that exists solely for console warring. Onto the ignore list he goes.

There's definitely no audience at the moment for these 3rd party games in Japan on Switch. DQ remasters being the exception as that is more in line with Nintendo's less graphic intensive and more child like 1st party line up of games for Japan.

RE9 selling 1/4 of its retail sales in Japan on Switch 2 is far from no audience. And that is for an IP that has focused on PS since day 1. The fact that you try to spin the fact that yes an IP that focused on PS having most of its fans on PS is some sort of revelation is laughable. The reality is that Nintendo went from getting zero procent of sales for these AAA games in Japan to now get around 1/4 of sales, it will just make PS already bad situation in Japan worse. For Nintendo these are just small bonus sales, while PS is losing console exclusivity for games that are the biggest appeal of PS in Japan.

Quick math says, roughly, those 40k units is a 25% increase for Capcom. Money is money.

I dont think it matters which platform sells the most games. Porting is easy because games are scalable, extra sales are extra sales.

“Consoles are great… if you like paying extra for features PCs had in 2005.”

I think this is the best I've ever seen PS5 do on the software charts. We only had to wait for its 6th year for it to finally start coming into its own.

I have this rule of thumb for Playstation systems. The number at the end of the Playstation is the number of years you should wait after launch until it's worth buying. In this case PS5 released a little over 5 years ago, so my rule of thumb seems to still be working.
