I will modify the no audience to very little audience if it helps your understanding of it.

It may have been insufficient by a small amount but that audience would have bought it digitally if they couldn't get the physical sku anyways since Nintendo and 3rd parties are pushing GKC's so much and that's basically digital regardless. Plus Capcom wants digital anyways.

Nintendo fans are not afraid to Pre-order the games they are interested in. The fact that so little of them preordered this game lets us know that the audience is not there or is very small at best.

For years here on this site, Nintendo fans were using COMG! and preorder data to hype up certain games so they know what they are doing.

You can disagree all you want but the numbers this week back that up. If this was Chibi Resident Evil and you had to run around collecting zombie parts then the Japan Switch audience would have ate that up, pardon the pun.

It's not "very little" though; you're framing it as if it sold like 10k.

Around 40k physical only, in a few days, limited by sold out stock, isn't bad sales when Capcom have not cultivated mainline RE on Nintendo platforms since the Gamecube, so this is essentially starting from scratch in growing an audience.

Pretty much this. Dragon Quest 1&2 HD, Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, and Octopath 0 all sold more on Switch 2 than PS5 despite the lower install base. The fanbase for those series was built up on Switch whereas Resident Evil Capcom has to build it up. Take Atelier, the Switch used to be the worst selling platform for the series (it's first game sold even less than the PS Vita version at launch) now Switch is the best selling platform. Sonic historically sells most on Nintendo systems. Capcom just has to keep at it and the Resident Evil series will get bigger and bigger on Nintendo systems.
