Knowing which articles to trust and which are junk is an art in itself. Get a book like this and read it. https://www.amazon.com/Information-Literacy-Essential-Skills-Age/dp/1591581435

I don't trust the source either, but I wouldn't say the number is unrealistic. Sony ported a ton of games to PC over 6 years~ and Helldivers 2 alone may have generated some $500 or more. Horizon 1, God of War 2018, Spider-Man 1, Stellar Blade, and Ghost of Tsushima all seems to be multi-million sellers on PC. The other games underperformed but they should add up to over a billion $.

This.

Especially when people are missing the point.  Exact sales aren't the point.  The point is Sony is making a billion+ off steam, it isn't small potatoes.

Bet you $5 they will end up doing it.

I would argue it is small potatoes if it does have an negative impact on the PS brand and platform. The platform is Sony gaming's bread and butter, and as we discussed in the other thread, it's not 100% clear even to Sony whether the net impact is positive or negative. It seems they decided it was negative (and I would agree).

Their big money makers on PC (live service games like Helldivers or Destiny) will still come.

You gotta give it a timeframe at least then lol.

Will Sony eventually have a single player first party game on PC? In 10 years or more? Maybe. In the medium term? Based on this, no.

Estimates by Video Game Insights (they are estimates based on Steam player count relative to average time to beat, drop rate, etc so take them with LOTS OF SALTY):

God of War - 4.99 M
Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition - 4.95 M
Days Gone - 3.82 M
Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered - 3.20 M
Ghost of Tsushima DIRECTOR'S CUT - 2.63 M
The Last of Us Part I - 1.97 M
Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales - 1.90 M
UNCHARTED: Legacy of Thieves Collection - 1.45 M
God of War Ragnarök - 1.20 M
The Last of Us Part II Remastered - 994.0 k
Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition - 927.2 k
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 - 886.1 k
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart - 498.0 k
Returnal - 293.3 k

My honest opinion is the first games enjoyed a big fanfare due to lower pricing points and for being the first exclusives releases, meaning the interest and curiosity was certainly there. The subsequent releases received much colder receptions

One way Sony may quickly retract is if PC gamers in rebellion start buying their existing games in huge numbers from here on out lol.

Dunno if its accurate or not but it's a least easy to believe those are decent estimates, may be a bit off but should paint decently the actual situation over there on PC.

You might get a lot of money in the short term, but if you are essentially just making yourself and your brand obsolete, is it worth it? Selling hardware may not be super profitable anymore, but the additional benefits of owning one of three (Switch, PS, PC) relevant platforms should never be underestimated. Exclusives justify the platform.

Exactly this. I literally sold my PS5 not too long ago to purchase a PC, but even I recognize the importance in stacking value on your platform with exclusives. Console exclusivity is meaningless now that it’s just Switch 2 v PS5– what matters now is exclusivity… period.

If I see a game I want, I’m renting a PS5 for a month and borrowing a copy of the game from a nearby library. But if Sony pumps out a lot of banger exclusives, then maybe renting will turn into purchasing a system.

Did the exact same thing! Sold all my PS5 games and moved to PC because I had no reason to waste my money on a machine that plays the exact same games that I can already on my PC and without paying subscription to play online on top of everything!

I think we should also consider that Steam isn't the only PC platform. I bought Horizon Zero Dawn and God of War (2018) on the Epic Game Store, because there was a deal at the time I purchased them (I think something like $20 for each title, if I recall correctly.)

When I originally bought these games on PS4 I bought them used for like $20-$30 each, which didn't add to any total sales or revenue for Sony.

F@#$!!! Back to square f@#$#&+ one!!! For real, why we can't all play on PC!? I mean, I have a PS5, but was hoping to go full PC next gen. This would save me some money to spend on actual games...

Come on Sony, Nintendo makes little toy that are easy to emulate, you guys are the last piece needed to make PC supreme.
