Forums - Gaming - Games you played on unusual platforms (And what the experience was like)

My first introduction to CRPGs was the NES version of Ultima III: Exodus. I still enjoy it more than the PC version, which doesn't have sound and has extremely limited graphics, though I remedied that somewhat with Pix's Ultima Patcher and some Roland sound drivers.

I bought THPS 3 for my launch Gamecube because I thought having the better running/looking version would be the way to go. Instead, what I got was a game that pretty much demands constant use of a controller's d-pad for a system whose controller featured a d-pad is the size of a pea. In short: it was a nightmare lol.

Doom on a Nokia phone (3310 I believe, around 2001)

It ran and played fine despite the tiny screen, using the buttons to play.

However after a few days it bricked my phone and I had to bring it in for a factory reset...

My first experience of Doom was on the SNES, at a glorious 15fps. And I loved it.

As a big fan of pointer controls, I also played Call of Duty Modern Warfare, World at War, Black Ops 1, and Modern Warfare on Wii, even though I had a 360. Also played Black Ops II and Ghosts on Wii U. For me, the gameplay made up for the performance concessions.

I was in the minority who played BOTW on Wii U (shaky framerate but still an amazing experience) and Metroid Prime 4 on Switch 1. (Very polished)

I don't know if this is that unusual but I played the PSP version of force unleashed before ever trying the main PS3/360 version. I tried the 360 version a few years back on Series S/X BC and thought it was awful, though might have been a problem with BC, there was an insane amount of motion blur.

Still I think the version of the game by Krome Studios for PSP/PS2/Wii is a good game.

Only ones I can think of are Sonic Unleashed on PS2, Batman Arkham City on Wii U, and Xenoblade Chronicles on 3DS,

I also made the mistake of buying BoTW on Wii U. My save is stuck there however long the Wii U flash memory survives.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

Sim City, Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord and Ultima: Exodus on my hacked NES. Hacked because it was a PAL model, and all those games didn't release in PAL regions, so some modding of the console had to be done and had a switch to switch between PAL and NTSC.

Also DOOM on the SNES, though I played it the PC before that.

Finally, to reverse this a bit, Donkey Kong and Mario Bros. on PC

I kept making the mistake of buying Lego games on the PSP. The load times for those were atrocious.

Cos I didn't have a PS4/XBO at the time I also played a lot of late Gen 7/8 crossgen titles on 360, such as Rise of the Tomb Raider, (excellent) Resident Evil Revelations 2, (Technically rough but enjoyable) Battlefield Hardline (technically solid and good fun) and Metal Gear Solid 5. (Impressive in how far it pushed the hardware, but not my cup of tea gameplay wise)
