Their forecast was for 19 million by March 31st, you expected them to almost beat that by the end of December?

I expected them to be on track based on the current data.

17.37 million means that Switch 2's first holiday season performed worse than Switch 1's first holiday season and that it may be slightly over tracked - Which suggests that momentum is slowing down for Switch 2 - Not an encouraging sign.

Clearly, a Kirby racing spin-off, a new Hyrule Warriors, and a less-than-glowingly received Metroid Prime, is no substitute for 3D Mario.

Nintendo better deliver on some heavy hitters soon or 2026 may not look too good for Switch 2 in terms of lineup and sales.

Switch 1 had a massive holiday because it was finally available after months of no availability. Nintendo didn't have that issue with Switch 2. Nintendo is MASSIVELY ahead of scedule sales wise for Switch 2.

I've never seem a Switch game from Nintendo get discounted as fast as Metroid Prime 4 here is Brazil, I have seem it get to R$260 on big stores (before coupouns) already, meanwhile other Nintendo games took several years to get to that if they ever do. Just checked it and it's R$ 269 on Mercado Livre on a store I know.

They mostly go around from 350 to 330 or 300 in some promotions, and some older games go for 250 or 260 during Black Friday kind of promotions on Amazon.

Prime 4 is really new and is getting a discount like that already, in January/February no less, doesn't even look like it's much of a promotion but a soft price drop.

All of that is based on physical, btw.

So yeah, I think it's safe to assume it's not selling too well.

Metroid Prime 4 Beyond has just been a disaster. From the lastluster marketing campaign (likely a consequence of lack-of-faith in the game quality) to lukewarm reception among critics and consumers to a very troubled (and likely thereby expensive) development cycle, this is not the Metroid Prime experience I’m familiar with— surely sales have exceeded the Remaster/Remake from three years back, no? My only hope is that Nintendo doesn’t give up on 3D Metroid just yet… Metroid Prime might be in trouble, but I think 3D Metroid still has hope.

They shadow dropped Prime Metroid Remastered out of nowhere. This projection about Nintendo being worried about the games quality is unjustified, it got 3 trailers and a roll out similar to any previous metroid game. Whether people liked the trailers or thought there was hype is another topic altogether. If I'm not mistaken it was the very first treehouse they done for a Switch 2 game?

Metroid Prime 4 also hasn't stopped selling yet. This week it moves up from 29 to 16 on the UK charts (Switch 2 82%, Switch 18%)

I've yet to get my copy but it will be amongst my 2026 gaming purchases.

I'd still like to see total sales so far for Prime 4.

Nintendo was dead silent on this game up until the last two weeks prior to launch, they hid virtually every aspect that people would end up wary on (e.g. we knew nothing about the Federation Force until previews released a week prior to launch, we had no idea what was going on with Sol Valley and this bike until launch, etc.), the release was slotted a week or two after the hottest week for sales, completely buried by three games (Pokémon, Air Riders, AoI), and — to top things off — the leader producer announces his retirement with a tremendous thud in an interview directly after the game’s launch.

Nintendo was not happy with this game and they were intentionally silent on it. They knew what they had and wanted to bury it.

Under current momentum they'll hit 20-21m by the end of March which would only be 9 months into its run, I think the highest 12 month total was Switch 1 with something like 24-25m, S2 under this momentum could actually match that which is a big enough feat by itself before we factor in that this is only the platforms first year.

Then there goes any chance of Prime 5 being made. -_-

This needs some grounding in reality. There are 6 trailers leading up to launch each slowly revealing more about the game. Completely normal roll out and typical for Nintendo to not reveal too much too early. If Nintendo was so unhappy with the federation stuff then why is that the portion they gave to press to preview? Again this doesn't add up. Press previews are not even necessary and plenty of games skip them if the publisher lacks confidence in the preview.

1) Announcement Trailer featuring Samus

2) Gameplay reveal trailer focusing on new powers

3) Switch 2 announcement:

4) Motobike Reveal and overworld:

5) Gameplay Overview:

6) Release Trailer:

Yes six trailers… but that’s over the span of an entire year-and-a-half. And they never showed much in these trailers nor explained what we were watching: they all just boiled down to revealing gameplay mechanics (outside of the overview trailer) that appeared confusing void of context. Additionally, it’s the one first-party Nintendo game to release last year without a direct to accompany it— the only time Nintendo was eager to show this game off was when showcasing how NS2 could handle 1440p @ 120fps during a Treehouse Presentation.

Anyways, no point in arguing further so im gonna drop it here.

Nintendo's stock is not responding in the way I thought it would.  The stock is down about 5% to 7% today and they are calling its Q3 performance a 'miss'.   Is there something I'm not seeing that the broader market is seeing or is the dip just related to missing the Q3 forecast even if by only a little bit?  Are people worried it can't get to the 19 in Q4?

Stockholders are morons, they consider anything other than "broke all records, line goes up forever" to be disappointing and constantly panic over nothing.
