Funny that argument doesn't show up in European sales threads when it turns out they buy PS5 to play EA Sports FC and CoD. When Nintendo benefits from people buying their console to play the same games its boring, but when PS dominates Europe on the backs of the same games every year its not boring?

In Europe you just mentioned Sony, Microsoft and EA.  And guess what, Nintendo benefits too because the market has diverse tastes.  Its only Japan where everyone else besides Nintendo is shut out.  Thats why Japan is boring.  No competition.  And thats bad for consumers.  Even if it was just Sony in the charts in Japan that would be boring too.  We want competition.

If Sony can't compete when they got 100 % of all Japanese games outside of Nintendo's on their console in Japan, that seems to be their issue to solve, they had all the cards vs Nintendo and still failed.

Take console out of the equation and just look at the games.  And more to my point just look at games on the Switch.  There are no publishers really doing anything over there besides Nintendo.  Thats a problem.  You legit don't understand what I am saying.  Is it Sony's fault that only Nintendo games are selling on Nintendo conosles in Japan?  I'm implying that the market is completely stagnated over there.  Can't even get FC or anyone else to do any real numbers over there.

Reading the messages made me curious, what were the Japanese charts like 20 years ago?

Thank you for posting this.  This is my point exactly.  Look at the diversity in Publisher and consoles and titles.  It wan't a one publisher takes all world.  It was exciting and healthy.  There are freaking Neo Geo games on here!  Now look at Japan.  Just Nintendo everything.  On this site when I point it out, all you get is... well its Sony's fault.  Like climb out of the Sony vs Nintendo thing for a second and look at the whole picture holistically.  The world is bigger than just two companies.

Nintendo better bundle Tomodachi for Switch 1 and 2

Software sales were a lot healthier 20years ago and digital only explains so much. With such a strong leaning to portable experiences I imagine mobile is eating a decent chunk of modern gaming interests in Japan

Whose fault for Nintendo dominating Japan ? Sony’s fault lmao

Not just Sony but most of Japans major party developers/publishers. They abandoned Japanese game tastes to appeal to the West. They made no secret about it. They altered franchises that appealed to Japanese players to sell more games in North America and Europe. What we have know is the result. That said Sony did go the extra mile to give the finger to Japan. They moved their headquarters to California and started censoring games for the smaller Japanese 3rd party developers which indirectly gave a boost to Nintendo. Nintendo as a company is still run from Japan. Its other divisions are essentially marketing arms.

Mostly Japanese publishers and Sony make games for western markets, you think Capcom make Resident Evil games for Japanese gamers? Nintendo makes games for both Japanese and western tastes.

Some third party games sell well on Switch in Japan, just look at that Momotaro game from Konami, it outsold Ghost of Yotei in Japan. So it isn't a Nintendo issue you have a problem with, but Japanese taste in gaming in general.

There is no need to cry about Sony losing against Nintendo in some markets, Nintendo is losing against Sony in other markets, different markets have different market leaders and different popular games, its just the way the gaming market works.

Strong Switch 2 sales and surprisingly good Switch 1 sales this week for some reason. There's no way its sales this week were higher than week 1 so the big question is if the baseline will be closer to week 2 at likely around 15k or this one. Also the PS5 is almost flat YoY which would be a nice goal for most weeks.

Keep in mind that PC gaming has grown a lot in Japan the past few years which this chart doesn't show and combined with Nintendo having a bigger physical presence than Sony makes it less and less representative of the full gaming market in Japan every year.
