Those JP figures don’t match Famitsu… what’s up with that? Maybe if you compare the NS2’s last 9wks against NS1’s last 10wks, but not 9-on-9. Also, CY comparisons are a bit sketchy given that Switch 1 had an entire quarter extra on Switch 2.

Switch 1 Week 45-53 2017 = 1,388,959

Switch 2 Week 44-52 2025 = 1,316,046

It does match Famitsu figures for the last 9 weeks of their launch years.

ohhhhhh, I had forgotten that. Bingo.

That is to say,It was overshadowed.

Was the deal 399 or 359 euros?

It doesn't really explain the UK Vs France thing though because UK also had similarly huge PS5 discounts. I believe both EU and UK got the same 30% off. Was down to around £295 in the UK for digital slim.

Not sure what is putting UK ahead of France. Maybe France is more sensitive to the higher price of Switch 2? Dunno.

The Switch started really slowly in the UK. It really built up it’s install base over time, especially during the pandemic and afterwards. It took the Switch 140 weeks to reach 2m sales in the UK, which is 12 weeks longer than the Series X/S.

I didn't expect it to be down vs. the Switch before the pandemic, launch-aligned.

Weaker software, higher price, no novelty...

Still going great though.

Switch 1 released with
1) BOTW as a launch title
2) 1 2 switch
3) Mario kart 8 ultimate launched in April
4) Arms in June
5) Splatoon in July
6) Mario Rabbids kingdom battle in august
7) Pokken DX in september
8) Super Mario Odyssey October
9) Fire Emblem warriors
10) Xenoblade chronicles 2 in December

Nintendo has released or published at least 10 different 1st party titles with a couple of them being first party games made by other game studios using Nintendo IP. This is the best of the best in terms of games launching within the first year of a console life span and Switch benefited greatly by an amazing launch year.

In comparison to the Switch 2 which is still selling well despite the lack of a major first party titles that isn't Pokémon Z-A or a switch 2 edition/patch.

Switch 2:
1) Mario Kart World June
2) Donkey Kong Banaza July
3) Kirby air Riders november

I might be missing a title but the switch 2 exclusive games only amount to 3. Not counting games that are cross platform or just update patches/switch 2 editions. Some parents may not opt to buy a switch 2 if some games are coming out on the switch 1. Nintendo didn't have a major switch 2 exclusive 1st party game launch on the switch 2 this past holiday season. Despite that the switch 2 still sold very well despite the down holiday season.

Switch 1 had the luxury of two of the highest rated games of all time (Odyssey and BOTW), a lower msrp (299 vs 449), a healthier economy, and an overall more robust demand for gaming hardware (reference PS4, Xbox One, and even 3DS sales for holiday 2017).

That's a valid point too.

470 euros (incuding vat) So, it must a combination of how both of you substanciated this ''issue'' Nintendo Switch 2 purchase postponed ,because of a probable price sensitivity in france amplified by the inevitable comparison with the whopping ps5 discounts.

AHHHH Someone give us already clues about the other large Market, Germany.

Basically the lower msrp! I see you use the prices in the USA, is your comment regarding that market or in general?

It costs 470 euros including vat in France (20%). 390euros with zero, wollah 449 dollars. Nintendo avoided tarrifs , eh?

Chris be talking mad shit, I think the guy is one of them fools that be failing upwards.

Interesting that it seems to have held up relatively well in the UK among the major western markets. We'll need to wait some weeks to get the full picture but it is looking like the Switch 2 had a good but not great first holiday overall which isn't a problem but is a tad disappointing after its insane record shattering start. More importantly it's a major sign that sales be slower going forward though it's entirely possible it still does very well in the first few months of this year with holiday 2025 being the outlier part.
