Forums - Sales - Is nintendo the winner of the 8th gen or the 9th gen?

Is the switch an 8th gen console

Yes its 8th gen 19 41.30%

Yes its 9th gen 27 58.70%

Total:46

This has devolved into a pathetic 8 year old childs schoolyard console warring. Championships...what a joke. Show me pictures of physical trophies of each console war won from any console maker. Sony. Nintendo. Whatever.

Nintendo won 3rd 4th 7th and 8th gen

Sony won 5th and 6th gen

Atari won 2nd gen

9th gen still underway, championship has yet to be decided. I will say ps5 is looking strong though. I think we need another year of switch 2 sales to get a better sense of who will win

Total Championships: Nintendo - 4, Sony - 2, Atari - 1, Microsoft - 0, Sega - 0

No pictures of these so called championships yet. It only counts if you have pictures of the physical trophy given to Nintendo and Sony for these "championships" No AI shit. Real photos of real Nintendo and Sony console winning the console war trophies. I'll wait. While you do I will be playing Psyvariar 2 on SEGA Dreamcast.

Sony gaming makes 3 to 4x much than Nintendo makes...  I mean if you were even attempting to be objective you would concede this fact.

There is a difference between revenue and profits from gaming. Nintendo has earned more profits from gaming since Sony entered the console race in the 90s, on the other hand Sony has earned more revenue from gaming since the 90s. In fact, Switch 1 earned more profits than PS1+PS2+PS3 and PS4 combined. Only with the PS5 has Sony became a huge profit maker from gaming.

The reason for that difference between revenue and profits has been that Nintendo has earned profits from hardware sales as well as selling more first party games than Sony, while Sony on the other hand has lost money on hardware which made their console business less profitable before. On the other hand Sony has always sold more third party games which contributes to them making more revenue than Nintendo.

I don't disagree and honestly don't care who makes more.  I am just trying to get him to understand that total sales don't mean anything.  It isn't a good metric, never has been.

We are on a site dedicated to sales. Lol. Of course the championships are determined by sales. But Nintendo makes the most money too, which i knew all along as well

Discussing sales and cheerleading sales are not equivalent.  And no, sales are and always will be a terrible metric.
