It's impressive, Playstation dominance.

13 years of winners:

6 wins for Playstation.
2 wins for EA.
2 wins for FromSoftware.
1 single win for Nintendo, CD Projekt, Larian.

PS4 was quite a time for Sony. (Meanwhile Astro carries PS5 with all its strength.)

Death Stranding won more GOTY awards than Sekiro?...

Edit: Interesting how Geoff Keghlely gets shat on for being a Kojima and Sony shill, when "his" awards show chose Overwatch and Sekiro over Uncharted 4 and Death Stranding (which apparently won more GOTY awards. Not surprising for Uncharted 4, but Death Stranding over the incredible Sekiro is borderline criminal). I still remember Keighley's days with Gametrailers when Sony fanboys accused him of Xbox shilling lol.

With PS4 as the bar, all systems from the last 2 decades fall short in terms of awards.

The focus on GAAS greatly hampered Playstation's production; luckily, things tend to improve.

Wolverine, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, Cory Barlog Next Game, etc. Playstation "Big Guns" are coming.

I speculate high chances for Playstation. they are likely to achieve the seventh, and perhaps even eighth, win in the next 3 years.

Considering only the winners of the last 13 years, I think FromSoftware and CD Projekt also have a great chances of delivering a GOTY in the next 3 years. Other don't look promising, at least not ATM.

The main reason Sony (and Nintendo) are struggling to win is that 3rd party studios stepped up their game and the industry at large is growing much faster than 1st party studios. The correlation between quality games and exclusives/1st party is weakening.

Exclusives used to dominate my favorite game lists. Not anymore.

I agree, and I'll go further: This force is led by small studios, such as Hazelight Studios, Larian, Sandfall Interactive, and others!

Smaller studios are surprising and captivating audiences with incredible experiences.

I'll go even further. I point to FromSoftware and i say that they have performed miracles in the last 15 years! From a small studio to the creator of the Souls genre, Sekiro and Elden Ring.

The competition and level of quality are increasing.

Probably around 60%, it really is the clear favorite this year.

90%+ easily antyhing else is a robbery

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

There actually is some controversy behind the 2019 through 2022 GotY counts. The original person behind counting all the GotY awards was not too happy that GoW:R was getting crushed by Elden Ring— in their eyes, as the had explicitly stated, FromSoft was overrated slop whereas Sony was the best in the business.

That all to say: If a referendum could be performed on the count for 2019 and 2020, we would very likely see (i) Sekiro win 2019, (ii) TLoU:Pt2 wouldn’t have garner nearly as many awards. Not getting into all the details as to why these results would occur…but that’s what the expectation has been.
