Push Square have published data from Gamatsu with Japanese console sales numbers for last week.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Here's how the Japanese hardware sales look overall for 17th-23rd November (via Gematsu):

  1. Switch 2 – 126,953
  2. PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – 23,381
  3. Switch OLED Model – 12,486
  4. PlayStation 5 Pro – 11,367
  5. Switch Lite – 10,908
  6. Switch – 5,976
  7. PlayStation 5 – 2,235
  8. Xbox Series X Digital Edition – 201
  9. Xbox Series X – 118
  10. Xbox Series S – 30
  11. PlayStation 4 – 17

Sony want to make money by selling art, Nintendo want to make money by selling fun, Microsoft want to make money.

Sony's intent with the new cheaper model is to increase the weekly baseline from abysmal (5-10k) to decent (15-20k).
They might actually be able to do just that.

The PS5 didn't just quadruple. It was up over 6.3 times what it was the previous week. That's a solid boost. Let's see if a readily-available and cheap model helps sales in Japan. We'll have to wait and see what the baseline settles at after the holidays to get a really good impression of the Japan-only SKU's effects, though.

Nice boost for the PS5.

No no no, it's just propaganda from Sony's loyal acolytes after seeing the recent European PS5 sales. It didn't come close to the mighty Switch 2 there so that should dampen everyone's excitement. Nothing to see here, move along and don't be glad about PS5 sales in Japan. /s

The PS5 will be back to the abysmal sales it deserves after the holidays. Facts.

So when Switch 2 sells 1/4th of what PS5 sells in a European country, it shows Nintendo is flopping hard while we should admire PS5 getting destroyed in Japan by Switch 2? Why the double standard?

Just like we can agree that Switch 2 is getting destroyed in Spain right now, the same is true for PS5 in Japan. And what makes it worse is that Sony is actually choosing to lose money on hardware sales in Japan and still end up flopping. At least Nintendo actually gets profits from their failing sales in Spain.

Trying to spin PS5 failing sales in Japan as being impressive would be like trying to spin Nintendo being competitive with PS in Spain when they get destroyed every week when it comes to sales there.

You are the main person acting like Nintendo is flopping hard in Europe.

Imagine that, selling more for less price.
