| RobDX said: Nah moderation is not necessary. If you try to dispute cold, hard, timely provided numbers like those given by nintendo you will be promptly refuted and maybe even mocked. But when it comes to the ps2 situation and sony's "creative accounting" (as put by certain AI) well... you can't really blame people for disputing them. |
Please go ahead and break the actual accounting for us.
I love how we always knew the PS2 sold at the very least 158M and up to nearly 162M possibly, but never got confirmation because of mixed PS2 and PS3 shipment numbers provided. 155M was sell through numbers before a full year of shipments we never knew the actual ammount.
It's funny how it's always the Nintendo themed avatar users bringing it up here as if it was ever any dispute that the 160M was made up from thin air...
As someone said early on in the thread, people really do have the right to make a fool themselves.
I don’t think we should be moderating because of false or inaccurate information. If someone wants to come in and say the Earth is flat they shouldn’t receive a moderation for that. And it wouldn’t be a mod’s job to correct them. That would be up to other users to have the debate. It’s also up to other users to not engage in a debate with someone that believes things like that because you’ll just go mad…or get mad. Either way, it sounds like a bad time.
Regarding the official Sony numbers, I think we can count on Nintendo declaring itself the top of the top if they ever achieve that number. I think they have some pretty good internal data on Sony and I think if they’re willing to make that claim then it’s probably pretty accurate or at least a point they’d be prepare to argue in the court of public opinion. Now if they’re exceed the 161 number or whatever and don’t make the claim, then by all means we should be declaring it because they’re obviously just being too respectful at that point. At any rate, just as in that thread, it’s a couple years away and I certainly wouldn’t be making any claims until it’s well past the stated Sony number, official or not. They can’t be petty enough to move it again.

Yes it's been known for years that the PS2 sold over 159m. The figures they gave for sales of all platforms combined and their other consoles made it mathematically impossible for it to have sold less.
But a lot of people who arent as invested in sales numbers didnt get the memo and now it has been officially stated apparently it came out of thin air and/or Sony are making things up lol.

Yet very eager to make this absurd posts... for some very mysterious reason.

Just to be clear I don't disagree with the 160m number (I posted on the financial report thread that the switch is still 6m behind ps2). I was more referring to the fact that I can see why some less informed people will have a harder time accepting said number and that is why we can't moderate them for that.

You saying this as though not only your avatar, but your own username (LoD), doesn’t feature a first-party Sony developed title (The Legend of Dragoon) is quite bold. I’d suggest not personally attacking others— I speak as somebody with a Nintendo-themed pfp. That said, I’ve never disputed Sony’s claimed 160mil figure as that’s about what I would’ve expected. Would be nice if they just dropped the precise figure though.
Tribalism is a sickness that seems almost integrated in the human brain. The fact that it manifests in hobbies and escapism like gaming and sports is hilarious. Seclusion is the only way you can truly cure (or avoid) it, god bless hermits!
Being objective and having honest debates is harder than we care to admit. Since this place is more or less dominated by Nintendo fans (many of whom can't even acknowledge this), it leads to foolish "Nintendo wins, Sony loses" arguments being backed up by more people than they should be. That thread is a perfect example of this. Even respected users will ignore the heaps of garbage thrown from their own side and be more concerned about the garbage thrown from the other side. I'm guilty of the same to an extent.
Personally, I don't care much about it. Let people express themselves however they want.

Did you ever see me doubting data Nintendo provided? If you see someone with a Playstation related avatar doing it please go ahead and do the same.
It's not bold at all. This shit was going on even on a purely Nintendo focused thread about Switch 2 sales.

What’s bold is your choice to call out user’s bias according to their pfp as though you don’t have your own.
