TLDR: Best selling entry since 2009.

One could wish Switch 2 stock would be better supplied in Japan right now, but its still a much better stock situation compared to what a much more supply constrained console like the PS5 had in Japan:

Switch 2 (June 2025-October 2025): 2.468.021 units.
PS5: (November 2020-January 2023): 2,462,545 units.

So Switch 2 current install base position is what PS5 had at the beginning of 2023 in Japan, so no wonder that bigger software launches is happening much quicker for Switch 2 than it happened for PS5, which basically had to wait until mid 2023 for its first bigger launch week with Final Fantasy XVI.

Atlus deserves this numbers for make a trash with 0 efforts port of Persona 3 Reload for Switch 2.

That’s a pretty steep drop for both versions of Pokémon ZA especially for the switch 2 version. I mean, doesn’t matter too much. They already made back their money just From the previous week alone but still.

RPGS tend to have big second week drops, on Famitsu at least, it's the norm for the genre.

Wow that's a crazy stat! But yeah I do remember when Japan was getting pittance stock of PS5s in the beginning

The Switch 2 is already nearly back to the baseline but sales will increase again soon since it's nearly November and it seems Legends Z-A will have better legs on the Switch 1 which makes sense due to install base difference and the Switch 1 userbase being more casual so not as likely to buy a game at launch.

Also for the Switch 1 something of note about its sales is in Japan it's currently selling better than the 3DS did post Switch launch and way, way better than the DS did post 3DS launch but in the US and Europe it's actually selling worse than both of them so is overall selling worse than those two worldwide so far post successor. This is abnormal since I think consoles tend to fall off quicker in Japan post successor launch so that's an interesting difference.

Probably second largest if digital is accounted for. Solid start!

I see.

if we compare the percentage job between Arceus and Z-A:

  • Pokémon Legends: Arceus:
    • Week 1: ~1,424,657 copies in its first week.
    • Week 2: 359,064 copies for the week of Jan 31 – Feb 6, 2022.
    • Drop from week 1 → week 2:
      frac{1,424,657 - 359,064}{1,424,657} approx 0.747 ;;(text{≈ 74.7% drop})
  • Pokémon Legends: Z‑A:
    • Week 1: ~1,485,457 copies in its first week in Japan.
    • Week 2: ~267,840 copies for the week of Oct 20 – 26, 2025.
    • Drop from week 1 → week 2:
      frac{1,485,457 - 267,840}{1,485,457} approx 0.819 ;;(text{≈ 81.9% drop})

it seems Arceus has the better hold. But we’ll see closer to the holidays if ZA will grow stronger legs

Legends Z-A sales on Switch 2 is dependant on stock, so hard to compare its legs with Arceus.
