It's the first game again, are there really still people that haven't played or at least tried it by now.

I've played it on XBox split-screen and PC. Both times we/I didn't finish it (gets so boring in the middle). It certainly looks cool to be on the start island again yet not $70 cool.

Yeah it will sell more copies on PS5 than on Series just for the reason of GamePass. But it will take a big marketing campaign for it to have some decent sales numbers.

Steam trained people to wait for sales, Gamepass trained people not to buy games, FTP shooters trained people not to bother with campaigns. And these kind of remakes are mostly banking on nostalgia.

Half-Life
Black Mesa sold an estimated 3.4 million copies on Steam (end 2024). · Black Mesa generated an estimated $44 million in revenue on Steam.

That's avg $13 per copy. (And it had sales down to $2)

It will take a lot of marketing and convincing new gamers that it's worth paying $40 or more for.

Halo CE originally came out almost a quarter of a century ago.

There is literally an entire generation of people who likely haven't played it... Just like we have several generations of people today who have never played Super Mario World, Spyro, Sonic, Goldeneye and more.

Time has moved on, the games generally havent.

Although Halo did get a remake on Xbox 360 and then remastered for the Xbox One/PC and Xbox Series, Playstation and Switch gamers likely haven't had the opportunity to play the game... And that's hundreds of millions of gamers.

^This^

XB is done trying to grow hardware. They're mostly going to aim to grow the gaming franchises now. So before they drop the next chapter of Halo, they're going to familiarize as many new gamers as possible, especially PS gamers, with the franchise so hopefully they'll buy into future Halo installments. They also likely want to update the old Halo games so they seem newer and feel familiar to what's going to come in the future Halo games as the saga continues.

*Halo 1,2,3 are beloved as well, so that's what you want to expose new gamers to, since they're the most likely to get players hooked. Bungie is also owned/part of PS now, and those original Halo games were made by Bungie, so there's a connection there already. Destiny may not be what it was or could be, but the name Bungie still holds a lot of weight, especially when it comes to Halo.

If they could find a way to make Halo 2 what it was going to be and not what it ended up being due to deadlines, now that would be amazing.

I didn't realize the deal eventually came with Halo... The Bungie purchase is starting to make more and more sense.
