Nintendo was apparently very late in sending out devkits, and porting takes time. The system's only a few months old.

Tony Hawk and Indiana Jones show they're willing to bring their stuff over, I'd be surprised if Forza/Gears/Halo/COD don't make their way over in 2026.

Halo doesn't even have a date though, just "2026". Why can't they commit to it coming to Switch 2? Even if the porting process still hasn't started they could slap a switch 2 logo on if their intention is to bring it.

Why would you commit to a Switch 2 version if you do not have a Switch 2 version in development.  Its obvious they have all the other platforms in development and probably at a stage they are confident it will be in 2026.  I doubt they even have anything for Switch 2 yet because they probably do not have dev kits or they got them so late they have no team to start on it.

Gamers get their knickers all bunched up if you announce something and then have to delay it because you did not know how long it would take to get out your product on something you actually have no clue how long it would take.

Unreal Engine 5 made it looks bad also no MP is just silly...What is the point?

Why does it need MP?

It looks good, but a bit on the UE5 generic side.

I was expecting much stronger switch 2 support from MS. Gears and now Halo seemingly skipping and even with the contract they signed CoD isn't coming yet either. At least fallout is.

There is zero reason why they skipped over the Switch 2 for this title... Except that it would have taken a little longer to develop the game to port it to the hardware... As ARM+nVidia is very different to x86+Radeon.

Which also probably explains why they didn't remake the multiplayer component, it would have blown out development times so Microsoft wouldn't be able to meet the 25th anniversary deadline.

I am guessing it's just a timing thing for the specific release date thing, rather than money or porting difficulty.

They may have to go back and rework the assets as well... I.E. Bake the lighting as Lumen is already looking pretty rough on the Xbox Series X/Playstation 5 and PC for Halo.. It would have to be even worst on Switch 2.

Does this mark the end of Xbox v PlayStation? (“Halo is on PlayStation going forward.”) This feels like a watershed moment, like when Sega announced their plans to release future Sonic titles on formerly-rival systems.

Also, this game looks incredible. That’s a day one purchase.

Not for me.  Oh yes, I will buy it, but not until 2028 or later.  Hell, I'm still happy with my PS4.

This gen sucks.  Why does it take so long to go from GTA5 to GTA6 ???

Why has ND gone YEARS from TLOU2 to IHP ???

What is Bungie working on??  Hell, I'm still playing Destiny 1 to this very day !!!  And Destiny 2 SUCKS and has always SUCKED!!!

Honestly, the more I see of it, the more I dislike it.

It just looks so generic, and image quality and pop-in are pretty bad, (though both could improve by launch hopefully) it just lacks the "soul" of the original.

Where did you hear this? As you mentioned, Microsoft has had devs kits long enough to bring over Tony Hawk and Indiana Jones… so I wouldn’t think that’d be the issue? Though IDK.

My personal theory is that it’s the same reason NS2 hasn’t received CoD yet… which is another question we don’t have the answer to lol. Prolly just very demanding to optimize (these games are often hundreds of GB after-all), and so, maybe the costs outweigh the benefits on a system with such a small install base, especially when the games don’t have super strong legs past a year.

https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2025/08/developers-reportedly-still-struggling-to-get-switch-2-dev-kits

DF and other outlets had heard from some third parties that even after the release of Switch 2 they were still waiting on devkits.

Tony Hawk was made by porting studio Iron Galaxy, such studios were likely prioritised by Nintendo.

But yes, optimization taking time could be a factor as well. Third party support already looks to be increasing in 2026, just from what's announced so far.

Then the fact that gamepass has trained people to not buy games, and that Most of their own user base have already played these games before.
I bet Halo Campaign Evolved sells 10-15 times more copies on playstation 5 than on Xbox series consoles.

It just makes more sense, to not skip playstation.

Ps. Recently saw a screenshot of the halo world championship (tournament), with like 600 viewers watching it live.....  Its just sad at that point.

It's the first game again, are there really still people that haven't played or at least tried it by now.

I've played it on XBox split-screen and PC. Both times we/I didn't finish it (gets so boring in the middle). It certainly looks cool to be on the start island again yet not $70 cool.

Yeah it will sell more copies on PS5 than on Series just for the reason of GamePass. But it will take a big marketing campaign for it to have some decent sales numbers.

Steam trained people to wait for sales, Gamepass trained people not to buy games, FTP shooters trained people not to bother with campaigns. And these kind of remakes are mostly banking on nostalgia.

Half-Life
Black Mesa sold an estimated 3.4 million copies on Steam (end 2024). · Black Mesa generated an estimated $44 million in revenue on Steam.

That's avg $13 per copy. (And it had sales down to $2)

It will take a lot of marketing and convincing new gamers that it's worth paying $40 or more for.

Halo CE originally came out almost a quarter of a century ago.

There is literally an entire generation of people who likely haven't played it... Just like we have several generations of people today who have never played Super Mario World, Spyro, Sonic, Goldeneye and more.

Time has moved on, the games generally havent.

Although Halo did get a remake on Xbox 360 and then remastered for the Xbox One/PC and Xbox Series, Playstation and Switch gamers likely haven't had the opportunity to play the game... And that's hundreds of millions of gamers.

Same can be said for Half-Life. Steam didn't exist until HL2 and now has 147 million monthly active users.

Half-Life Black Mesa has reached 2% or so of Steam users, I guess if it sells to 2%-5% of PS5 and Switch gamers it will be worth it for MS. With good marketing and sales it should be able to do that. However Halo doesn't have the name it used to have anymore. My kids had never even heard of Halo and weren't interested in playing Halo Infinite at all.

I guess it will depend on the pricing, yet in the age of Fortnite, Rust etc, new generations aren't exactly looking for a single player / co-op campaign. No multiplayer PVP planned for this remake?

This is today's mentality

Most reviews suggest focusing on Battlefield 6's multiplayer as the primary and more worthwhile experience, with the single-player campaign being a secondary and less impressive offering. The campaign is often described as short, linear, and lacking in innovation, while the multiplayer is lauded for its large-scale, chaotic sandbox gameplay that allows for creative player moments.

The question is, will Halo's campaign revive the interest in linear story based shooters or confirm it's a thing of the past :/

That sub title is funny.

I'll get it on PC first and possibly multidip on PS/Xbox when it goes on a 75% sale in a few years.

This takes me back to how bizarre it felt, as a 90s kid, seeing Sonic on the Gamecube for the first time, after him being Nintendo's rival throughout the 4th and 5th gens.

Hell, this one perhaps hits even harder as there was really only about a decade of Sonic vs Mario, but Halo has been a Playstation "enemy" for almost a quarter of a century.
