In the US, hopefully this crap remains confined to Evangelical Land and doesn't infect the rest of the country. With the way video games are scapegoated (Kennedy is on that kick now), there's a non-zero chance the porn law ID verification will be extended to video games. What PornHub has done in evangelical states is to simply block any IPs from those states rather than deal with ID verification.

I thought Australia also had an online ID verification law.

Ooh okay

And ya I dont see why or how they would enforce that on video games (and eventually movies/tv) - likely wont pass through as easily as it did with porn.

Plus its the credit card companies pushing it which forced their hands, dont see that happening with video games or movies.

The credit card companies are already pressuring Steam by threatening to refuse to process payments if Steam doesn't remove certain games.

Because they are porn games which I guess their just bundling it together as "Porn".

With how much these companies are getting hacked and having their meta data stolen, IN THE AGE OF A.I You make a fantastic point and actually now have me reconsidering even buying the game. I'm hyped for it, but this is 100% authoritarian and has no beneficial or positive outcome. Many people will fall for it, but I don't think it's a good idea. No game is worth that risk. This sounds like a massive headache in the making.

All just to keep Little Timmy from playing when it’s the parent’s (!) responsibility to keep him from playing it in the first place. And it won’t work for most of them, anyway, parents will by-and-large either give them their ID or their kids will steal it to get access.

They would still need to pass the face scan. Thats why I dont believe they will implement this. This would push away a significant part of their audience and thats without taking consideration all the negative repercussion that you mentioned

The only way I would end up with GTA6 if they paid me $100 and a free blowjob from Summer Hart.

That's an odd choice for who is giving the blowjob (I've never heard of her), but I think you would pay a little more for that.

It’s not even a lock they will have the face scan, though. Highly doubt they’ll have both a face and ID scan. If there’s age verification (God I hope not), it’ll probably be one or the other. All signs are pointing to ID scan. It was found in the game’s files.

But if there is a face scan, it’ll keep some people who actually ARE of age from playing it just so parents won’t have the “burden” of looking after their kids (God forbid), which I won’t support with my money under any circumstances. If you think everybody “just” hitting 17 or 18 in high school (or even fresh out of high school) looks like a “passable” adult, you’re kidding yourself quite frankly, no pun intended. I knew plenty of 17-18 year-olds in high school who possibly/likely wouldn’t pass a face scan.

I was thinking about the face scan to confirm that you are the ID owner. But if there is only one method to validate you age, then ID scanner is the only reasonable way for sure lol

Which also won’t work because (shortsighted?) parents will, duh, just scan their face and ID. Does anybody honestly think some dipshit parents who are shortsighted enough to buy their impressionable kids the game won’t also give them/scan their ID so they can play it? Maybe a few here and there won’t, but we’re talking a tiny, insignificant number here if it exists. Meanwhile, millions of people’s IDs and personal info will be at risk of being hacked/leaked to “protect” those small few, which anybody who saw the Tea app hack should absolutely not be okay with.

It’s actually 17+, but this.

I support requiring you to add a credit/debit card

Kids need to stop playing this game. It’s a horrible influence on elementary students. I love gta series, and I work in elementary. They have no business shooting hookers
