Forums - Gaming - After 3 days people are modding Silksong to make it easier.

This seems like a reasonable bait to me. I can appreciate stirring up some discussion, though the means might be a bit rude here.

I mean, it's losing part of what makes the game what it is, but on a single player title, who cares. Just don't allow achievements if the game is modded and done.

That would be a great way to stop people from claiming they've "finished" a game.

Sometimes I feel people need to read aloud what they're posting here beforehand. Some of that stuff and you'd be laughed the fuck off any room in real life.

I like FromSoftware games. But beating them, honestly, did not make me a better person. Neither did it made me feel like telling how others should play them. It's not that important, really. It's just a video game.

Yeah, it's just a game. A videogame can't be something that forms a core memory or an important part of your life. Only books and movies and music are allowed to do that. /sarcasm.

Also, I can't tell you how often you'll get laughed out of the room in this modern age while being right. Idiots are everywhere.

I try to sneak in an hour of gaming every day, but I don't always succeed in doing so.

The funny thing is that there is already an easy mode built into Souls-like games. If you are having a hard time, you can just farm more souls or explore another area of the map until your character is OP for the boss you are stuck on. And on top of that, most of these games have an item combo like Guts' greatsword, or Giant Dad build that makes the game easy. Souls-likes aren't actually hard; they just don't hold your hand Nintendo style. The people installing this mod after three measly days just want everything spoon-fed to them quickly. They could be patient enough to find that one OP item or go exploring/farming. But they gave up.

If you change the rules of soccer so that you can use your hands, you aren't playing soccer anymore. That's because not being able to use your hands is a small but critical aspect of the game. If you want to play base'ketball or some other variation of a sport that's fine. Just don't claim to be a soccer player while playing a game that isn't soccer. In the vein of videogames, once you take the "difficulty" out of a game like Hollow Knight you've changed a critical aspect of the game. People who install an easy mode mod aren't playing Silk-Song. They are playing a different game that looks and feels the same but is not the same game. Imagine buying a guitar and instead of learning to actually play, you hook your system up to AI and prompt it to make your playing sound awesome. Now, imagine still claiming to be a guitar player. You aren't. You are doing AI-assisted karaoke. And people who use an easy mode mod aren't beating Silk-Song. They are beating a romhack. Both the guitar player and the Silksong mod enjoyer are posers.

And to that I say it's more mature to just accept that not everything is for you than it is to try to be one of the cool kids enjoying the new hotness. Just go play a different game. Otherwise you are as much a poser as someone that tries to pass store bought cookies off as their own recipe.

If someone wants to play it in a way that's "not silksong anymore" in your view, why is that a problem?

It's not. As long as they admit that they aren't playing Silksong anymore. As long as they don't try to be a part of the community that genuinely likes Silksong and Hollow Knight. Just like it's fine to play Karaoke while just randomly mashing strings on your guitar so long as you don't tell people that "you are a guitar player". You do you. Just be sure to be yourself and not a poser.

It makes me laugh how with videogames people are expected to tolerate ridiculousness that wouldn't fly in other hobbies. You can't throw gutterballs and then yell STRIKE! unironically in a bowling alley. A kid that thinks Soccer is played with hands is fine, but imagine he goes to join a local Soccer team and then insists to everyone that hands are allowed. And when they all tell him they aren't allowed he calls them gatekeepers or whatever.

Also I'd like to once again point out that these games already have an easy mode built in. Grind out more souls and level up. They don't want an easy mode. They want things spoonfed to them and they want everything their way.

You don't get to decide how other people enjoy their hobbies.

If people want to play their own way, that's up to them, and them alone. They don't need your permission or approval.

No, but I do get to decide whether their hobby is the hobby they claim it is. Someone mashing strings on a guitar with AI assistance isn't a guitar player. Someone that plays Soccer with his hands isn't playing Soccer. Someone that installs a mod that changes a critical aspect of the game isn't playing that game. They are playing a similar looking but different game. Look, I love Shredder's Re-Revenge but that's not SoR2. Someone who only beat Re-Revenge and never beat Rage 2 can't claim to be a fan of SOR2. They are two different games. People don't get to be posers, just because it's videogames.

You actually don't get to decide that. Nobody appointed you the supreme overlord of gaming. Your opinion is just that, your opinion, it matters no more than anybody else's.

You can't stop people modding Silksong to be easier. You're free to dislike it, and complain about it, but there's nothing you can do about it.

So now the problem is people posing about their gaming? Who even does that? I know for sure that no one around myself would be impressed by what I play, no matter what game it is, lol.

Also, we're talking about toys, not sports or instruments. It's quite a flawed comparison. You don't play soccer for yourself so you don't get to make the rules. You also shouldn't cheat in online games. But when you're playing all for yourself, who gives a flying fuck about what you're doing? If you kick a ball in your garden you can do whatever you like and no one gets hurt. When it comes to instruments, everything is allowed when you play for yourself. Now whether you'd like to call yourself a guitar player just because you pulled some strings for three minutes is up to you. I'm learning Ukulele for three years now and still wouldn't call myself really good at it. But I also don't care what other people talk about themselves. Seriously, I don't have time to be upset about something this insignificant.

I still struggle to see the point of this thread.

I don't think you understand what an opinion is. An opinion is a subjective statement of like or dislike. A claim that Y is not X is a factual claim. You can disagree and believe that a romhack of Silksong is still Silksong. But whether it is or is not is not an opinion.

I'm just arguing that once you take a critical component out of something it becomes something else. If you remove the water from the sea it's no longer the sea.

Again, you are free to disagree and state that the sea is still the sea without water. Or that Silksong is still Silksong after being altered in a way that drastically changes the game. But it's not an opinion.

And yes, exactly. I am free to dislike that people are actively butchering the game and being posers. I'm also free to make fun of them for it and point out that they aren't playing Silksong but an edit, because they actually don't like Silksong. I am free to suggest that they play a game they will actually enjoy instead of pretending to like a game that they don't like.

You're free to feel that way, but frankly I doubt anyone really cares whether you approve of how they play games.

Plenty of people in this thread cared enough to berate me for judging others.

Yeah, I think some of these reactions are a bit OTT. It's a fun little thread, no need to be rude
