Forums - Sony - Sony have reduced the PS5 Digital's SSD size in Europe and US

I hope people realize they're doing that to actually try stave off the tariffs.

What would people rather have? a higher price or a bigger ssd?

This is in Europe where no country has issued any increases on goods coming in from Asia.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.

It was confirmed.

Every single hardware news is bad news at this point.

Europe was once Playstation's stronghold, now they don't blink twice to screw it over.

Shrinkflation

I expect this will probably be rolled out to other regions too.
Everyone is trying to squeeze out every shred of profit margin they can, whether by hiking prices or cutting costs.

Not a great look, and the inherent value is lost. So I understand people being upset.

But honestly I feel like unless you're playing very storage heavy games, you'll be fine.

I have 10 games on my PS5, including Lies of P, GoW Ragnarok, Callisto Protocol, Dead Space, and Tsushima, and I'm using less than 350GB storage.

I have a OG PS5 which came with 825GB as well, plus a 2TB SSD, and I'm out of space already.

I have 35 physical games, plus Genshin Impact and Zenless Zone Zero, and I think that is far too early for both of my SSDs to be full.

I have 81 physical PS4 games plus several digital indie games, the PS4 has a 500GB HDD and an external 4TB HDD and it was way more than enough space so I share the external HDD with the PS5 as well.

I think I'll need to move to a 8TB SSD by the time the gen is over if I reach around 75+ games like the PS3 and PS4, but that thing costs as much as a PS5 Pro around here, it's insane.

I guess you call this shrinkflation for video games consoles

Pretty much; tariffs and inflation are cutting into their profit margins, but they already raised the price and don't want to make their system too expensive for their target audience to afford, so their solution is to reduce costs somehow.

It's something of a Hobson's choice; make less money, (which no company wants to do) price out your audience, or downgrade your product. Expect more of this as long as the tariff nonsense continues.

Hmm maybe Governments should put tariffs on game-key-cards at 100%. See how quickly they revert to full games.

Honestly, this being lighter and a matte finish alone seems like an upgrade. Would've been nice to have this as an option when I got a PS5 last year lol.

Youtubers have got to be the most annoying creatures on the planet with their stupid cringey face-pulling and clickbait headlines.

So that I don't give him a click, is this the Digital Edition, or has the regular slim now been reduced to 825 as well.

LOL, you actually watch these people on Youtube?

There is 100000000000000 youtube channels that do the same thing, and maybe 0.001 are worth watching, the rest is just same crap.

I stopped watching hardware channels on YT long time a go, you wont find anything good in there.
