Looking at the poor state of Monster Hunter Wilds this is... concerning. Guess it will run well on my PS5 at least. RE4 Remake is pretty nice on PS5

MH Wilds is a very different beast to this, a large open world game with tons of monsters, foliage, weather effects, etc, which RE Engine doesn't seem well suited for.

This game seems like the engine's bread and butter; a game built around enclosed environments, like the one it was originally designed for, RE7.

Many (most, I may say) publishers still put full games of Blue Ray discs

My rule of thumb si: If the game is fully on discs for PS5 but not on Switch, is Nintendo's fault for not provide a smaller and less expensive media

If the game is not completely present in either, it's fault of the publishers who just want to maximize profits no matter what

A Blu Ray disc costs next to nothing to print, a high speed flash card is just a much more expensive piece of hardware, and there's nothing Nintendo can really do about that, they can't just click their fingers and make a cheap form of flash memory come into existence.

I think he is basically implying nintendo should have went with blu ray discs. lol. or something similar.

This coversation is weird. We all seem to understand that Nintendo fucked up with the N64 and lost a lot of third parties because of their expensive cartridges vs CDs. They are doing the same thing now, but this time its the third parties fault? I dont get it.

i think n64 carts are fine lol

I mean, what realistically was their alternative?

Using Blu rays was not an option, for obvious reasons.

Going digital only would have pissed people off even more, not to mention retailers.

they still never should have even allowed it to begin with.

I mean, what can they do?

If they mandated that all third party games must release on a $16 game card, third parties would just say "lol fuck off" and not bring their games to Switch 2 at all.

i mean.. good point, but nobody is even buying them anyway haha. i think some of them would still try to make them fit. 7 million consoles in 2 months is undeniable. probably would have made more money putting their games on a $16 cart than what they have going now.

Thats Nintendos job to figure out. They tried GKC. It failed. Now try something else.

I mean I would love to be able to buy my third party games on a game card personally, I'm just saying, the Switch sold over 150 million and still a lot of publishers gave it only half-hearted support, I imagine they would have no issue just skipping Switch 2 if they were forced to pay cart costs.

Sometimes there just is no good option available. Game cards are expensive, and third parties don't want to pay for them.

I'm not a fan of Key Cards myself, I just buy games that use them digitally to cut out the middle man, but Nintendo can't just wave a magic wand and make a new cheap form of storage come into existence.

It's clear GKC are not popular, and Nintendo has released surveys asking for feedback on them, so hopefully something can be done in time, like smaller card sizes. I expect even then though, some publishers will opt out just to save cash.

switch had great support in the beginning, but it got to a point where the hardware couldnt keep up, especially once 9th gen consoles were released. i think we will see the same exact thing happen to switch 2. we will see good third party support for 2 years and then it'll fizzle out. oh well, who cares. again, appeasing them is pointless. all nintendo needs to do is sell a bunch and third parties will put games on their console. as long as there is not too significant a power gap, it will happen. should never come at the expense of what nintendo's vision for their consoles and games are though

Thats fine. Some dont want to pay for Blurays either, so thats just the way it is. Nintendo could offer smaller size carts and maybe work with third parties to compress their games better to fit carts. I mean Tears Of The Kingdom is like 11GBs and DK Bananza is like 10GBs. Its insane how good Nintendo is at doing this. Maybe its harder with a PS5 port, but at least offer some assistance maybe.

I would actually say Switch 1 support remained quite good in terms of AA/indie stuff, it was more AAA fare that eventually became too far ahead graphically for ports to be viable.

Heck, even Post-PS5 we still saw stuff like Monster Hunter Rise, It Takes Two, Hogwarts Legacy, Crash Bandicoot 4, etc.

It was more some publishers like Capcom that (MH aside) kinda gave half-assed support.

I do hope that something can be done, as I'd prefer proper physical releases myself.

I'm not defending key cards, (don't like them personally) just expressing that it is a tricky situation with no easy solution, and the decision is ultimately up to the publisher.
