I do think part of the problem is most don't know how taxes work, so rising taxes gets a huge push back.

Like increasing Medicare from 3.8 to 5%.  If someone makes 450k, most think that 5% applies to the entire 450k, when it doesn't.  It applies to the 50k above 400k.

I'm not saying you don't understand how taxes work, but the average American doesn't, which is why so many oppose.

I had a coworker a long time ago who didn't want want his annual raise because it was going to take him from 98k to 100k and his tax rate was going to increase, and has was going to make less money.  I could not get him to accept the increase tax rate was on the 2k, not applied for the first 98k.  Tbe first 98k was going to be taxed as per usual.

For sure, I’ve had coworkers say similar things in the past, “I don’t want to go up a tax bracket and end up making less!” Or “It’s not worth getting overtime after a certain amount of hours because taxes take it all!”

Overall, our country is financially and politically illiterate but even worse than that, so many people are willfully ignorant. They don’t understand something and put in zero effort to try and learn about it or when given an explanation, they bury their head in the sand and don’t want to hear logic.

And what's even worse is that there are plenty of sources out there that lay the tax structure out in pretty plain terms, at both the state and federal levels. They will even simulate your paychecks for you based on federal, state, and local tax rates, and factors such as withholding and pre- and post-tax deductions.

I feel like that recent murder of Charlie Kirk and that Ukrainian girl have changed me some, like i need to become more politically active wrt gun rights. I would have helped her. I wouldn't have been one of those passengers that only gave a worried look or whatever. I would have shot the assassin dead on the spot if i was around. We need to bring back old school values where they hanged people in public and just about everybody had a gun. People are more polite and aren't eager to get their jollies on a random murder or assualt if everybody around them is armed.

We already have more guns than ever.

I think the Charlie Kirk murder has also changed me in the opposite way. We have too many guns. We need to do something about mental health and the culture in this country.

And we need to stop being surprised that a country that adores guns and violence as a way to solve it's problems, is using guns and violence to resolve things.

And we need to stop acting like the solution to a culture that adores violence and guns using them, is bigger guns and violence.

the whole problem nowadays is that people think that this kind of thing is fun.  They don't care about the consequences or having a normal moderate life.  We get so wrapped up in our phones and entertainment and fun stuff that we need these little fun things and get bored so easy.  So its no surprise that we are falling by the wayside wrt crime.

Now, people dont mess with you when you are open carrying a pistol.  If you think they will, you can eyeball them and rest your hand on it and they'll back off.  We just aren't a polite society such as japan so a "no weapons" policy just wont work for us.  We need a peace through strength, a different philosophy if you will.

Uh no.

Crime rates are down, fewer people are getting murdered every year.

Regardless, i have a right to protect myself or others as well as let anybody know that I am able to do so.

I took the test again after many years. I have went from just slight left of center perfectly between authoritarian and Libertarian to right in the middle of the lower left box. Not sure how I drifted like that over the last few years.

It's been a long time since I haven't done these left-right wing tests. Which one did you do?

The politcal compass test that all the influencers and Youtubers used to do, there for a bit. The one with the coloured grid and 6 pages of questions.
