Forums - Gaming - Sony will increase the ps5 price again.

Nice to see that when it's Sony people show interested to post about it here, didn't take long for a thread to pop up, meanwhile when it's about the favorite company of the majority of this forum userbase tho... never getting posted.

The PS5 is nearly 5 years old, they definitely had the room to keep the price the same instead of blindly chasing profit.

Time for the monthly reminder that companies are not your friends, they don't blink even once thinking about passing shit onto you.

I know this is because of the scum of a president you guys have over there playing with everyone else's livelyhood as he pleases, but it is still shameful nonetheless.

Where were the price drops once things were going your way, Sony?

Sony isn't "blindly chasing profit", people need to understand when a company posts high revenue/profits, they need to MAINTAIN that at minimum, otherwise the stock will drop rapidly if they cannot.

Stockholders don't give one fuck, they will drop your stock and go invest in a Google or Meta or Microsoft or Nvidia, who ARE able to maintain/grow bottom and top line profit with or without tariffs.

These tariffs are simply coming at a terrible time, many people are just barely getting over getting walloped by COVID-era inflation as is. But that's not Sony's fault.

Can't wait to see the hardware sales from August, specially September, onwards

Explain to me how every single generation and other piece of hardware prices always dropped, but now they all remained the same since the Switch, and the only movement it up and never down? Stockholders did not exist up until 2020?

The pandemic went from mid 2020 to mid to late 2021 depending on where you live, sure that was a massive reason for that.

But it has been nearly 4 years since the pandemic slowed down and things went back to "normal" before this idiot started doing this stupid tariffs shit, where were the permanet price drops during this time?

Companies realized during the pandemic that when prices go up everywhere they never need to go down anymore, because people end up accepting it. What you are seeing globally now is what happens here in Brazil at least as long as I'm around. After some time there are so many companies doing shit that public backslash is mitgated and eventually doesn't matter anymore unless it's something mindblowing absurd done by just a single one of them. The pandemic showed in capital words that up to everyone else that didn't have realized it before.

Things will keep getting worse and worse, there will be not even attempt to give excuses soon enough, be ready.

The PlayStation division is more profitable now than it ever has been in history. They didn't need to do this, but sadly they could because there wasn't enough competition to stop them from doing so. To me, it feels like a lack of competition price hike rather than a necessary one. Happens in Europe a lot and Sony does it because they know they own Europe practically.

Just because the division is profitable doesn't mean any company is going  to eat $50 out of their hardware margin. That's a significant loss in margin.

Yeah companies were going to "eat" the tariff cost ... just like they ate the inflation cost from COVID ... nope. Average consumers will pay for it like they always do.

You think it's a coincidence Sony did this after Xbox raised their prices to levels where practically no-one would but it anymore? Sony lost 4 billion dollars during the PS3 era. They lowered PS3 prices when they couldn't afford to, because they had to due to strong competition. They could easily eat the cost if they felt they have to, but clearly they don't have to. MS cares more about publishing than Xbox hardware, and Switch 2 can't run the big million seller titles as well as PS5 can. Borderlands 4 being only 30fps for example.

Well TSMC have already said prices are going up on their 2nm process, so yeah.

Thanks Obama

We went from expecting price cuts, to expecting multiple price increases.

By successfully eliminating the competition, Sony can charge whatever they want, whenever they want.  Great for Sony!
