The PlayStation division is more profitable now than it ever has been in history. They didn't need to do this, but sadly they could because there wasn't enough competition to stop them from doing so. To me, it feels like a lack of competition price hike rather than a necessary one. Happens in Europe a lot and Sony does it because they know they own Europe practically.
