PS5 Ships 80.3 Million Units as of June 2025

Sony Interactive Entertainment in its financial results announced it has shipped 80.3 million PlayStation 5 consoles as of June 30, 2025.

With 80.3 million PlayStation 5 consoles shipped that means 2.5 million units were shipped from April to June. This is up 0.1 million from the same quarter in 2024 when 2.4 million units were shipped.

For reference, the PlayStation 4 had shipped 3.2 million units in the same quarter for a lifetime total of 82.4 million units shipped as of June 30, 2018. This puts the PS5 behind shipped PS4 units by 2.1 million units.

There were a total of 65.9 million games sold on the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 for the quarter. This is up 12.3 million from 53.6 million during the same period a year earlier. Digital sales accounted for 83 percent of software sales.

There were 6.9 million first-party games sold across the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. This is up 0.9 million from 6.0 million a year ago.

There were 123 million monthly active users on the PlayStation Network, an increase of 7 million from 116 million a year ago.

Sony's Game & Network Services Segment for the quarter ending June 30, 2025, reported revenue increased 71.6 billion yen ($0.49 billion) year-over-year to 936.5 billion yen ($6.34 billion), while operating income increased 82.7 billion yen ($0.56 billion) to 148.0 billion yen ($1.00 billion).

I'm going to work on adjusting our PS5 estimates. We are a little low given where the gap has been. I want to get PS5 up to at least 77.4 million sold.

Edit: PS5 now adjusted up to 77.41 million sold.

Thats kinda crazy, another 100mill consolw in the bag for sony.

It's even UP by 0.1 compared to last year with a price increase+ no notable game released.
Noo wonder sony doesnt care about its exclusives anymore, they dont need to.

100M.+ before the end of 2026.

Feels like the PS5 has shown resilience against factors that would make sales fluctuate in the past.

Don't know how much of that is Xbox hardware practically bowing out or due to changes in what the buyers value and an even stronger brand but it is working out.

At this point there really is only two consoles. PS5 and NS2

The difference is only 2.1 million units. Why is the difference bigger at 2.9 million according to vgchartz? I'm not saying the number is wrong, just a question. Congratulations on the work, trunks.

I predicted 2.6M for the quarter but was off slightly, still good results and up YoY as well. Just 2M off the pace from PS2.

Platstation 5 Versus Playstation 4

For the 1st quarter of the 5th full fiscal year (purple) the 2.5 million the PS5 shipped is 0.7 million down on PS4's 3.2 million and after 19 quarters the PS5 totals 80.3 million compared to 82.4 million for the PS4. This means launch aligned the PS5 is 2.1 million behind the PS4.

I wasn't expecting hardware to be slightly up YoY so this is a good quarter. It was still 0.7m behind the PS4 so the gains in the last two quarters were almost completely wiped out and it'll likely be further behind by the end of this fiscal year but there's a good opportunity for it to reduce the gap in the next one with GTA 6 though a potential price increase due to tariffs could prevent that from happening. I wonder if they're waiting till after this year to do that.
