From a sales perspective, Kinnect gave a massive boost to Xbox 360, Kinnect was a major reason why Wii sales fell off a cliff after a few years.

The real reason why Wii sales declined sharply in 2011 is because Nintendo released only Wii Play Motion in the first half of 2011, a game that came bundled with a controller and was sold for $50. It was a bad year for Nintendo software on the Wii as Nintendo had already shifted development focus to the 3DS (released in Q1 2011) and the upcoming Wii U.

Even over a decade later people refuse to acknowledge the severe software drought of 2011, because they'd rather believe that the Wii was a fad. That all the same people got blindsided by Ring Fit Adventure's and Switch Sports' success doesn't matter to them.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.

More power to you, but that is what started the Xbox One down fall. MS should've been acquiring more studios during that time.

They've acquired half the industry at this point but that doesn't seem to have helped; the problem is that MS doesn't seem very good at managing the studios they acquire. You can't just buy your way into a great first party position, you need to be able to properly nurture the studios you own.

What are you talking about? Microsoft is dominating the software sales charts.

Console hardware is meaning less and less these days. All about software and subscribers. Even Sony is using player engagement .

People realize Nintendo home consoles sucks. That is why the Wii U flopped too despite a good line up. Nintendo's bread and butter is handheld. That is why I'm surprise in the other thread people didn't vote for gameboy as Nintendo's most ground breaking system.

They just laid of thousands of people and cancelled multiple games that had been in the works for years.

Hardware is of immense importance to those who can actually sell hardware; Microsoft are de-emphasizing it because they are failing at it.

I'm convinced this is another alt of Zeldaring. Just loves to be wrong—similar posting style.

Laying people off and canceling projects is a natural part of business and most of it wasn't even Xbox related. For example, King took a huge hit and wasn't really  part of Xbox.

Not true, software is more important. If Microsoft sells a customer an Xbox but don't buy any games that actually hurts Xbox rather than help it. Keep in mind Xbox is doing well in North America where people buy the most software. That is why Sony and third party publishers are supporting Xbox.

This post of yours is even dumber than the one of LegitHyperbole that I labeled one of the dumbest posts on this website ever.

The NES single handily saved the gaming industry in the US at least, but I do agree the gameboy was a masterpiece in itself.

After the SNES, Nintendo traditional home consoles struggle.

Moving the goalposts doesn't help your case. LegitHyperbole's response was a lot smarter than yours.
