Laying people off and canceling projects is a natural part of business and most of it wasn't even Xbox related. For example, King took a huge hit and wasn't really part of Xbox.
Not true, software is more important. If Microsoft sells a customer an Xbox but don't buy any games that actually hurts Xbox rather than help it. Keep in mind Xbox is doing well in North America where people buy the most software. That is why Sony and third party publishers are supporting Xbox.
