Console hardware is meaning less and less these days. All about software and subscribers. Even Sony is using player engagement .

They just laid of thousands of people and cancelled multiple games that had been in the works for years.

Hardware is of immense importance to those who can actually sell hardware; Microsoft are de-emphasizing it because they are failing at it.
