Forums - Sales - SEGA reveals updated figures of several titles

Persona 5 vanilla alone sold 3.2 million copies as of 2018.

The Persona 5 series (including spinoffs) passed 10 million as of December 2023.

Persona 5 vanilla + Royal sold 7.2 million as of April 2023.

All of this points to Persona 5 Royal selling 3.5-4 million copies in the last 2 years~

Combined Persona 5 vanilla +Royal sales: 10.7+ million. Huge.

You can see the huge spike in sales for Persona 5 Royal when it finally got a multiplatform release. Despite being on Gamepass the game sold more in it's launch window than the PS4 in it's launch window. This should be a perfect example as to why 3rd party publishers are doing multiplatform for most if not all their games.
I also have a gut feeling the Switch version outsold the PS4 version or is close behind it. I wonder if Sega/Atlus regretted not doing a Switch version for Persona 3 Reload.

Damn, sucks that SMT5 didnt sell as much if not more than Persona 5.

I enjoyed my playthrough of SMT5 on Switch , will get Vengeance later.

Persona 3 Reload sold as much as SMTV - damn.

Yeah being locked to only the Switch didn't help SMTV much in the early years. I hope eventually it can at least leg to 3m now with Vengeance.

Why would they regret not making a Switch version when Persona 5 itself proves that late ports can still sell heaps? They'll eventually get those extra sales from Switch 2 in addition to platform holders's money, and a ton of double/triple dippers. Why change a strategy that is obviously working?

PC and Switch versions of Persona 5 Royal may indeed beat the PS4+PS5 versions, because many Persona fans only bought the original and refuse to fall to Atlus's greed. Atlus didn't offer an upgrade path from vanilla Persona 5, or from Royal PS4 to PS5. They're the greediest motherfuckers in the business. I finished Persona 5 on PS4 and skipped not just Persona 5 Royal, but also Metaphor, because I know they have an "ultimate" version in the works that won't offer an upgrade path.

Also Metaphor did 2m in 8 months. Normally JRPGs are frontloaded, but it sold half in the first month and half in the next 7 months. I think it is doing quite well.

There is potential for the sales to be greater. Becoming an ATLUS 2nd pillar over SMT.

But I have a feeling ATLUS will release SMT6 on multiple consoles next time, and that could bring SMT back to 2nd.

Metaphor will beat mainline SMT and it won't even be close. With a Switch 2 version added, 5 million sales lifetime could be the floor.

But yes, SMT6 might change this if they increase the budget (especially marketing) and scope.

Too bad it doesn’t say how much Pharaoh sold. I guess it didn’t do very well then.

Yeah, probably. People just didn't seem to like it very much at launch, and it's kind of hard to come back from a poor launch. My understanding is that the game has improved a lot since launch, but I'm also getting a hunch that people are expecting something more like Warhammer (faction/unit variety etc.) these days and are thus less likely to like historical games. I like the series myself, but I haven't played enough of it to be able to tell if that's indeed the case of Creative Assembly has really lost the ball in the more recent releases. Even Warhammer III had a rough launch if I recall correctly, but judging by both reviews and sales, they managed to turn it around.

That’s probably the case. I haven’t played Pharaoh either to be fair, the newest one I played is still Rome II. Though I also have no interest in Warhammer, still hoping one day they’ll do a Medieval III.

When you consider the history of Persona/SMT, 7.25 million for Persona 5 Royal is insane. The Sonic titles are doing well too.

And that's just Royal. That's not counting the plain old, vanilla version of Persona 5.

With those numbers from Sonic, especially Frontiers + the report that Sonic Team was getting a bigger budget to work with AND the success of SxSG and the 3rd movie... Makes me (cautiously) optimistic about what the next 3D game is going to look like.

Persona 5 (Vanilla) sold about 1.64 million on PS4 and 0.24 million on PS3. Those are also impressive numbers considering the state of the series at the time and how old PS3 was.

I think Persona 5 (Vanilla and Royal) is sitting at over 10 million now according to this site which means Vanilla is probably a bit under tracked.

Persona 6 is going to be huge. It will probably also sell over 10 million units lifetime from not only its vanilla release but its inevitable enhanced release.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

PS5: 122 million (was 105 million, then 115 million) Xbox Series X/S: 38 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million. then 40 million)

Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

I don't think its certain that Atlus will port their games to Switch 2. They just announced Persona 4 on an Xbox showcase with no Switch 2 support. Atlus mostly make Shin Megami Tensei games for Nintendo platforms and the rest is PS, Xbox and PC only, for the most part.
