Forums - Nintendo - Digital Foundry: Cyberpunk 2077 on Switch 2

I have a question , I skimmed through so I'm not sure if my question has already been answered, was the difference in optimisation taken into account because while we have the hardware side to consider the game itself has undergone a lot of changes with iirc very little of those efforts aimed at the base PS4 and Xbox one consoles.

There have been many post-launch patches for Cyberpunk on PS4/XBO and DF typically use the latest available version of a game for performance capture.

The Switch 2 will likely also improve with post-launch updates, as every other version of the game did.

Yes there was some post launch PS4 patching to get it  in decent enough shape to be put back on the store but apart from that CD Projekt basically gave up and  decided to (and I don't blame them) focus their optimisation efforts on the platforms that could better support the game going forward in Sony's case that being the PS4 Pro and PS5,so from my viewpoint rather than compare a game that was bad enough to be taken down from the store over it's issues. the Pro is a better alternative when it comes to a comparison.

this isn't me trying to throwing shade on the SW2, since I feel a PS4 Pro v Switch 2 comparison would have shown off the Switch 2 in an even better light since from what I have read apart from resolution the SW2 is ahead of the Pro in many of the tests.

It's still not in a good shape on PS4.

It's the spinning rust drive that is the biggest hindrance... Followed by a lack of Ram and a middling CPU.
If you upgrade your PS4 to an SSD, you can see a significant reduction in load times and better texture-transitions.

But, the PS4 is still only giving 5.5GB of Ram for games, so the fact they got the game running like they have is actually rather impressive.

The Switch 2 is just better adept at running more modern games with less of a penalty.

I wouldn't say they gave up on it; last gen continued to get patches for years after release, and it did improve somewhat, there's just only so much you can do with hardware that has 5.5GB of RAM for games, a mechanical hard drive, and a CPU that was weak even in 2013.

My guess is they compared it to base PS4 because (a) it's by far the most popular last gen platform, so that's where most people experienced the 8th gen version of the game, and (b) PS4 has been the primary point of comparison for Switch 2 since it was announced, as the two aren't miles apart in terms of raw power, even if Switch 2 has a number of advantages in terms of features and efficiency, as Cyberpunk demonstrates.

This will likely be my first Switch 2 game. Note, I never played any other version of this. I don't own any consoles that play it, and while I can play it on my computer, I generally don't it for gaming.

How are you playing it? Pro controller or Joy-cons?  I did not care for the motion controls in the fighting tutorial but I feel like I am going to miss things by not having access the the mouse when playing with an old Pro controller....

Im playing with the Switch 2 pro controller.

I'm a good 12 hours deep in it myself, and man it's a great showcase for the graphical upgrade over Switch 1; it looks great and runs rock solid the majority of the time. Absolute night and day difference compared to similar ports on Switch 1 which often had very soft image quality, low res textures, and noticeable fps drops.

If I had one technical complaint its that the motion blur is really overbearing, but if you turn it off then panning motion looks jittery, but that's an issue with the game itself rather than the Switch 2 port.

Other than that, this is one of those games like Doom 2016 back in the day where I frequently stop to think wow, so this is what portable gaming is capable of now, we've come a long way.
