Well we know now that it has the fourth best launch sales in UK behind PS5/PS4 and Xbox series with +160K sales

These numbers are for the week or the release day?

Launch week, which is 3 days of sales for NS 2. XS had 5 days in its launch week.

Different markets. In France Nintendo is incredibly popular, while in the UK, Nintendo has often played third fiddle behind PS and Xbox. There was never any chance that Switch 2 would rival PS5 in the UK, and even Xbox is strong competition in that market for Nintendo. In France it will be easy for Switch 2 to outsell PS5 though.

What we have so far.

  • UK: 160K+
  • France: 200K (Retail only, excludes My Nintendo Store)
  • Spain: 55K-60K

NS2 launch sales in UK and France are 2x or higher than NS1, while it is ~33% higher in Spain. Depending on how sales are in the rest of Europe we could be talking around 800,000 units sold in Europe for launch week.

For those curious here are the VGChartz estimates for Europe for launch weeks:

  1. PS5 - 785K
  2. PS4 - 707K
  3. PSP - 569K
  4. PS3 - 516K
  5. NS - 439K
  6. XS - 343K
  7. 3DS - 330K
  8. Wii - 322K
  9. X1 - 312K
  10. DS - 300K
  11. X360 - 231K
  12. Wii U - 178K
  13. PSV - 167K

That would be pretty impressive for a Nintendo console to have the biggest launch in history in Europe, a market they have often struggled heavily against Playstation since the 1990s.

Living in France, we love Nintendo.
Nintendo DS is the biggest selling console in UK, Spain, France and Germany in front of the PS2.

But PlayStation is really dominating Eastern Europe.

The possibility of doubling it's launch sales over the Switch 1 in Europe seems almost dreamlike considering that it could match the PS machines over there initially.

Especially since the Switch 2 was launched during no holidays

Oh yeah, nice reminder that it is doing all this while in a period of gaming sales that's considered slower or not optimal certainly for most publishers.

So if Switch 2 sold 800K at launch in Europe. That means sales in the US should be around 1,2-1,3 million? And Japan could be around 800K-900K. I also think the other regions category would be around 300K-400K sales. Meaning week 1 sales for Switch 2 should be around 3-3,2 million in total WW.
