Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Switch 2 pre orders in USA & Canada delayed while Nintendo assesses new tariffs.

Glad that they paused the tariffs but that just shows how poorly thought out they were to begin with. We need an adult in the room.

Or better yet, to go back in time and make sure that thing's parents used protection.

Trump literally said: "Y u no kiss my ass and beg for a trade deal?! Dishonorable!!!"

Let's see how he's going to spin his probable defeat to China as a holy victory. I guess he did partly succeed in manipulating the market for a few rich assholes.

On the bright side, hopefully Nintendo sticks with their original Switch 2 pricetag!

Not if they ship from China.

They can manufacture and/or ship from Vietnam and other countries. But yeah those crazy tariffs on China could still cause a lot of trouble unless they're also short-lived bs.

So the tariff on vietnam where 60% of Nintendo hardware that is shipped to the US comes from is reduced to 10%.

Hopefully Nintendo will soon give an update on preorder date and if this has an effect on pricing.

There's a 90 day "pause" on tariffs with the exception being China.

Who knows how long that'll last lol. At least it gives Sony and Nintendo some time to prepare for the rest of the year. It should make the Switch 2's launch month a lot more stable, and perhaps even on pace for the highest console launch ever.

The thing that sucks is that shortages will probably be rampant due to FOMO and hype. If tariffs resume in full force around July 9th, that barely gives Switch 2 a month on the market before they resume.

I probably can't get one until at least August, and the tariffs could resume in July like I said. It could also make the holiday season miserable.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

PS5: 115 million (was 105 million) Xbox Series S/X: 40 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

Trump has now pulled the same stunt three times in a row where tariffs were paused virtually immediately after going into effect. Why should it be different the fourth time?

His focus on China is merely the realisation that the USA cannot take on the world, but at the very least the USA has to take on one country in order to not look weak and pathetic. Even so, the USA lost the last time they engaged in a trade war with China, so why should this time be any different. So before long, Trump is going to falter here too. He's probably already thinking of a way to sell the imminent loss as a win to his supporters.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.

That's good, but it's only for 90 days, so hopefully, a deal will be worked out very soon.

The tariffs are all petty and counterproductive. I miss Biden. -_-

Meanwhile I saw a thread on resetera, that had a graph showing shipments allocated to regions..... US is now getting basically every Switch 2, nintendo is able to make. They want to get as much stock in, within these 3 months as possible.

Which will lead to less in the rest of the world.  Watch what happens, I bet you on launch it sells out quick in say Europe.

While we're waiting on Nintendo to announce the new pre-order date for the USA & Canada here's an article talking about the Tariff's on China in relation to the Switch 2 according to an internal memo from a Nintendo supplier.

"Nintendo's Switch 2 and other gaming consoles made in China are likely to be hit by the trade war between the world's two biggest economies, despite the U.S. announcing over the weekend that smartphones, notebook computers and certain other tech products will be exempt from Donald Trump's "reciprocal" tariffs."

"According to an internal assessment memo by a major Apple and Nintendo supplier seen by Nikkei Asia, game consoles are still subject to a 145% U.S. tariff on goods made in China"

"The majority of Switch consoles are made in China, Nikkei Asia has learned, with a relatively small proportion made in Vietnam. Many of Sony's PlayStation 5 consoles are made in China, as well."

This is excerpts from a paywalled article: China-made Nintendo Switch 2 in line for 145% tariff hit, supplier warns - Nikkei Asia

As I posted before Nintendo was using Vietnam to supply the USA with 60% of it's hardware shipments, but without being able to use China to supplement this they may not have enough capacity to send as much Stock to the USA as they would like for the Switch 2 launch period.

If the Video Game Consoles aren't added to the list of exceptions soon (which probably won't happen as I doubt the Trump Administration gives a damn about that) or the tariff's on China aren't lifted then all of the platform holders are about to feel the pain. And of course the 10% tariff for all countries will effect even those made outside China.
