Forums - Nintendo - The Donkey Kong Bananza thread: Out now exclusively on Switch 2

First sales numbers are in for Donkey Kong Bananza (UK Physical sales):

''Donkey Kong Bananza launches at No.1 in the UK chart (physical sales) . Its launch is 3x bigger than the launch of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze on Switch. But it is less than half of Super Mario Odyssey’s''. - Chris Dring.

Install base estimates put that number at 36K sales. Higher than the retail launch sales in the UK of games such as Astro Bot, Death Stranding 2, Echoes of Wisdom, Kirby and the forgotten land, Crash Bandicoot 4. Seems a pretty great launch, given the install base differences. The increase of digital sales for Nintendo games since 2017 also means that DK Bananza true sales numbers in the UK are closer than the retail sales difference between DK Bananza and Super Mario Odyssey.

That's still a good start though, right?

Yeah it is, Switch 2 doesn't have that big of an install base in the UK yet launch sales for DK Bananza at retail in the UK is competitive/better than most other platforming games.

They Could have released it on the switch 1. Totk is more technically impressive than this game.

I'm a little sad that there's no underwater swimming in DK Bananza. Guess there wasn't time to implement it.

According to the devs:

"It was clear that the memory available on Switch [1] would struggle to handle that load," added programming director Wataru Tanaka, "and we felt that manifesting the huge volume of terrain that we did in this game might have been unachievable on that platform.

With the move to Switch 2, we gained not only more memory but also greater processing capacity. That gave us the freedom to incorporate gameplay ideas we'd previously abandoned because they were too demanding. When we got down to trying it, we discovered that not only could it handle the heavy processing requirements, but it also ran at 60 fps."

The difference in graphics from the Switch 1 build to Switch 2 is clearer than you'd think.

Odyssey launched near the holidays, so makes sense

I think the Snake Bananza is my least favorite one to use. It's harder to control. But it's nice that the snakes DK and Pauline meet are friendly and avoid the tired evil snake stereotype.

I was pretty busy throughout the weekend, so I was only able to play for a couple hours, but outside of the camera being kinda frustrating when you start going through the dirt, I'm having a great time so far! DK looks and feels great to play! Gonna be binging this game starting tonight.
