This thread is starting to feel toxic.
Who is outselling who and when etc isn't relevant at all.
The discussion should be fairly simple. Do you like them? Is your objection to the "achievement" or the settings.

An achievement popping up during a cut scene can be annoying/ruin the tension. It can also be an odd spoiler by name or the fact you did something special.
They are also fun to collect etc.

So have the debate be about if you want them, and how you'd want them to work. Not about system A being system B.

Well, people started to say that Nintendo didn't need achievements because they are market leaders. If you believe your platform has the winning strategy, why would you want to copy something from a rival platform that (in their eyes) is a losing strategy? That's why this thread got de-railed so quickly. I think they should have achievements as they are very popular videos on YouTube and will help promote the Switch/Switch 2

When you use 'need' it feels like an attack.  The switch is doing insanely well. You can't say they need it - when they clearly don't.

You can say that "achievements are very popular videos on YouTube and will help promote the Switch/Switch 2". That can be your argument for them.  But it's all an opinion.

You're opinion is it will help the system sell more.  But that's just an opinion.  So you get to have your opinion. They get to have their opinion. No one is right, no one is wrong.

I got Disgaea 5 on the switch because it had achievements built into the game. I didn't get Disgaea 1 because he had no achievements built in.  Does the switch need achievements? No.  Do I need them if I want to play certain games on the switch - yes.

It all started with the guy who thinks Nintendo doesn't need it simply because they are the market leader. I'm guessing Nintendo fans don't find complacency to be bad

I never used the word "need" though. I was just paraphrasing what was written previously by another poster in this thread. Yes, I know it's an opinion. My point was we never got to that point of expressing our opinions because the notion of having an opinion on whether Nintendo having achievements would be better for the system was seen as an attack on the Switch. You are implying that by adding something, that it is lacking something.

Your first comment was "Nintendo are NOT the market leaders. When GTA6 launches, you'll see who the real market leader really is.".

Your first comment had nothing to do with this thread or the question. It was a pointless comment attempting to cause an argument over something that isn't relevant.

so cut it out.

You'll have to imagine the "ding" here.

Well I thought the market leader aspect of this thread was really important because if Nintendo is a market leader why copy a losing strategy from another platform, like their achievement system. I was hoping people could see that but It has just come across as flame baiting apparently.

I want an achievement system on a Nintendo system.

Call them badges or whatever.

100% want.

Dont want them? Dont worry about it, let the rest enjoy

This is how I feel about it too.

No reason Nintendo can't modernize their platform some more.

If anyone in the industry is complacent, it's not Nintendo. The fact that you and other people here seem to believe that is why these toxic disucssions happen.

It's not that Nintendo needs help or needs to evolve, it's that you people subjectively want Nintendo to be more like something familiar to you, so you make these ill-advised topics that have no bearing on reality.

Nintendo don't need your help or advice, believe it or not. They're doing fine. Nintendo have already proven they're at their best when they ignore popular trends and do whatever they want.

Nintendo Switch currently has a 58.4% marketshare. That's not just a market lead, but a majority marketshare. That's why we call Nintendo the market leader of the dedicated console space

Source: https://www.vgchartz.com/

So the active player base on PS4 + XBO doesn't count, only the player base on the newest console?

With this logic, Nintendo will soon lose that majority marketshare (and will be last place for a while) when Switch 2 launches (and the active player base on Switch 1 doesn't count anymore).

Monthly active users, yearly active users and/or yearly software revenue seems to be a much better suited comparison than just focussing on hardware numbers, especially if the console launches of Sony and Nintendo are so far apart from each other nowadays.
