Then why do all the third party developers have the PS5 as their main platform for development? Are the publishers just too stupid to know who's market leader and don't know what platform to develop their games for?

So you can't do simple math, but have the energy to move those goalposts I see. If you have to ask why in the most obvious answer. You must be trolling or wear a bike helmet everywhere you go.

Moving goalposts? I made an excellent point. The publishers go where the money is. If the Switch is market leader why do all major publishers target PS5 as main platform of development. You think that opinion makes a person so stupid they need a bike helmet to take everywhere?

The market leader in console gaming doesn't 'need' to do anything.

What does that mean?

I always like the achievement system as a digital footprint of what I did, and when.

Last week I was reminded by a friend of how they think they got me into the Yakuza series. And by checking our trophies I was able to piece together and confirm a part of that memory that I was unsure of.

This is not the first time my trophies have helped me remember things I've been wondering about years later.
They're also a nice way for me to see how far into a game my friends have gotten in a game I'm currently playing, so I can safely discuss it without spoiling anything.

They're saying that because Nintendo are market leaders (debateable), they don't need to change anything to what they're currently doing. Basically that, their strategy is already the best and most successful so why change anything.

GTA6 being in development isn't relevant.

Nintendo Switch currently has a 58.4% marketshare. That's not just a market lead, but a majority marketshare. That's why we call Nintendo the market leader of the dedicated console space

Publishers are neither stupid nor do they all have PS5 as their main platform. In fact, there are significantly more games available for Nintendo Switch than PS5.

https://www.mobygames.com/platform/playstation-5/ - PS5 has 3,318 games

https://www.mobygames.com/platform/switch/- Nintendo Switch has 12,168 games

And VGChartz recently posted a story of one of Playstation's longtime exclusive publishers backing off exclusivity: https://www.vgchartz.com/article/463501/square-enix-we-cant-be-exclusive-to-a-single-platform/

But, none of your red herrings are relevant. What is relevant is that Nintendo Switch currently holds, not just a leading, but a majority 58.4% marketshare and are therefore the market leader - https://www.vgchartz.com/

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Also to answer the thread. It’s all fun and games until GameFreak add an achievement for collecting every single normal and shiny variant in that games Pokédex. So no, I like the fact Switch has no achievements system.

You know...no one's forcing you or anyone to go after the achievements in the games on Xbox, Playstation or Steam. I dont see a reason why this should bother anyone that has no interest in achievements in the first place.

IT'S NOT A RED HERRING. It's a valid point. I can't believe you just took the total number of games on PS5 and Switch and tried to use that to disprove my point. Switch has been out for 3.5 years more. Of course it will have more, geez. You also posted a link about exclusivity, when i never said anything about exclusivity. I was only talking about lead platforms for development. I

This thread is starting to feel toxic.
Who is outselling who and when etc isn't relevant at all.
The discussion should be fairly simple. Do you like them? Is your objection to the "achievement" or the settings.

An achievement popping up during a cut scene can be annoying/ruin the tension. It can also be an odd spoiler by name or the fact you did something special.
They are also fun to collect etc.

So have the debate be about if you want them, and how you'd want them to work. Not about system A being system B.

Well, people started to say that Nintendo didn't need achievements because they are market leaders. If you believe your platform has the winning strategy, why would you want to copy something from a rival platform that (in their eyes) is a losing strategy? That's why this thread got de-railed so quickly. I think they should have achievements as they are very popular videos on YouTube and will help promote the Switch/Switch 2
