That may be so, but Daniel Ahmad is a legitimate source.

It's also common sense. Digital goods can't be effected by tariffs. You can't tariff something that doesn't physically exist.

Isn't he the clickbait whore that this site always references? Who even is he? A games analyst? Like Pachter?

More like a Mat Piscatella. Pachter primarily just guesses how the industry will play out in the future. Idk how often he's brought up on this site though, but he's always been a legitimate source when it comes to how business in the video game industry is handled now. Unlike Pachter.

Hardware is definitely subjective to tariffs though. I'm guessing that's why it's $449 instead of $399. Which we can blame Trump for. Digital goods are not though. The absurd game prices are also effecting Europe.

I can't stand Trump as much as the next guy, but you still gotta make sure he's the one to blame on things lol.

There is no tariffs in Europe and the price increase if like 30-40 euros per game, which is more than their current margin over the product. Ridiculous and shocking.

I just can't shake the Pro console vibes, a very ecpensive one even before you consider the Express card. I'll have paid less for my PS5 and it's SSD expansion. Much like the PS5 pro, I can't justify it at all with that software line up and I am going to assume cross gen will last for quite a while with 129 million Switch users.

Not sure how you are getting "Pro" vibes. It's very clearly a solid generational leap. Basically looks like it's PS4 Pro power given that the games are graphically a huge leap over Switch and it can run them in 4k or 120fps. It's the complete opposite of Pro console vibes. Saying it has Pro console vibes is the absolute last thing I would have expected anyone to say lol.

The power I think is beyond what anyone was expecting. Personally I was expecting games to look like they do but run in either 4k/30fps or 1080/60fps, so I'm very impressed what they packed in, even if that means the price is jacked up $50 above what I expected, the HW price makes sense for how much power they stuffed the system with. They clearly decided to sacrifice system affordability in order to make a system strong enough to get lots of AAA third party support and look good even against the consoles.

The generational leap in power and the new hardware features and the awesome MK World and the much greater 3rd party support are the amazing things about the system.

The very expensive pricing strategy and no 3D Mario in sight meaning weak launch period first party support outside Mario Kart are the bad things.

But yeah because of the pricing strategy the Switch is definitely gonna last longer than expected. $400 system and $60 games would have meant the Switch is dead on launch day, but $450 system and $80 games means the Switch at $200, $300, and hell maybe even the $350 OLED still has room left to sell. Nintendo's next-gen pricing is bad for Switch 2 but good for Switch.

I'm mean the software line up is giving me PRO vibes, I had my mind on the out put of games when I made that content. It feels like mainly enhancements and titles that are releasing anyway, the hardware is an upgrade indeed apart from the lack of OLED which is a step back and you'd think for that price it would be OLED but HDR if done well and even decent nits should be enough to make the screen feel new and fresh. Regardless, that software output is not on and they have basically admitted they don't have anything between Metroid Prime 4 and winter. I'd want to see more games secured for release before winter, something I hope is only a problem that they don't want to commit to specific dates right now and software will come within that time frame, otherwise probably waiting til Spring next year for more games..

It's basically the Switch, but more powerful and with a mouse. The mouse alone makes a HUGE difference.

It was a great Nintendo Direct.

I'm so damn excited for Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, Kirby Air Riders, Hyrule Warriors Age of Imprisonment, Switch 2 Editions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, and Metroid Prime 4 Beyond.

This is the most third party support I ever remember for a Nintendo console, especially at launch. Absolutely insane stuff. Happy to see Bravely Default get an HD remaster. Also From Software having a Switch 2 exclusive in the form of The Duskbloods is huge. Casual 2025 drops for Hollow Knight Silksong and Professor Layton and the New World of Steam is also something lol. Huge news.

It's perfectly reasonable to be surprised at $80 Nintendo games already though. The pace of the move is staggering. Less than two years ago all Nintendo Switch games were $60 or less. They only released one $70 less than two years ago and suddenly we're jumping to $80. I don't think anyone had the foresight that Nintendo would be charging $80 for physical games this soon, or that they'd be the first to do it. With only one $70 title it feels more like they jumped straight from $60 to $80.

They were one of the last to release a $70 title but now are already jumping into the $80 territory.

Physical games are the past, I think people just need to accept that. The $80 is basically a "fine we'll give you physical games but we're not eating the physical cost of the cart + retail margin for no charge any longer, you want that, you pay for it".

The games are $60-$70 ... $80 is just for a minority audience that for whatever reason needs to have physical games ... they can pay more for that.

Source for physical costing more on Switch 2?

I do really appreciate the hardware upgrades. Near 8 inch 1080p screen while still having the same thickness as the first Switch, a second USB-C to charge while in tabletop mode, a now ACTUAL functional voice chat and video chat without the need a crappy app. There's some good stuff here when it comes to hardware upgrades for sure.

Not sure if the C button was really necessary though lol

Doesn't europe have VAT or something to drive prices up? Or are those EU prices pre-VAT?

Also, I hope the GC controller is good (and hope it has gyro), the GC controller was so good, but Switch controllers have all failed me multiple times this gen. They better make those better.

This isn't really comparable.

Sony's marketing for games when they showcased PS5 was deliberately misleading; they announced several titles only at that time, gave them no solid release dates and then gave vague messaging about 'these games are being developed for PS5'.

Your post isn't really relevant to what we're talking about lol which was people discounting cross-gen titles for next-gen consoles as not being of any value. I'm not sure why you're talking about how the games were revealed or deceptive marketing. Very strange left-turn. Think you just wanted to say your piece. xD

It's not difficult to comprehend. A cross-gen title is not the same as a PS5 game or a Switch 2 game. People are buying the Switch 2 to play Switch 2 games, cross-gen releases are a bonus.

Sony deliberately mislead people to help increase the perceived value of PS5. That's why there was a lot of criticism around them and cross-gen releases. Not because the games weren't worthy PS5 games.

Not sure why you felt the need to compare them in the first place but the situations are not the same.
