Forums - Sales - Monster Hunter Wilds is around the corner. Let's predict first week sales!

After a massive opening, sales have tanked somewhat with just 477k sales in the last quarter.

Capcom describe the sales as "soft":

For perspective, Rise sold 389k, so not that much less, and it's over four years old now.

Word of mouth for it has been really poor, it's a technical disaster on PC, and the core game seems like a bit of a disappointment as well. Capcom messed up. It should still beat Rise eventually but beating World will be very difficult even with a Switch 2 version.

Edit: What's up with this Devil May Cry boost? Holy cow. A crappy Netflix anime adaptation caused all that?

Yeah the PC version running horribly seems to have hurt it a lot as a big slice of their audience is there. The game itself was also a letdown to many.

Unless something drastic happens, I'm doubtful it will catch Rise actually; it gained by less than 100k in only its second quarter, and Rise is 7 million ahead.

MH World sold 400k in its 2nd Quarter after launch.

So MH Wilds doing 477k is on a similar trajectory than the former.

Wilds had a considerably bigger opening than World though, so the drop is larger.

Between the bad word of mouth and the high pricetag, short term legs being weak isn't a shock. Capcom may be able to fix it with future updates and a major expansion. I doubt they'll just sit and do nothing about their most important title.

Unless the game is fundamentally broken and unsalvageable, I see it passing Rise in the long run, especially if a Switch 2 port is made. Though World and Rise remaining popular after all these years may actually be a hindrance to its growth.

It's possible, but it will need a lot of work.

I'm sceptical there will be a Switch 2 version just cos the game is so horribly unoptimized even on much stronger hardware, like it struggles to hold 30fps on Series S already.

There was no PC version of World then though, Wilds already has the PC version so no future boost from that avenue is going to be available to Wilds.

Capcom themselves states the numbers are soft and its nearly being outsold by MH Rise for the quarter which is embarrassing.

Think Capcom is going to have to create a reworked version for the Switch 2 at this rate. Yes it will require work, but so what. They're better off making MH Wilds with 50-75 people and spending 14-16 months doing that than making one of their lesser known IP for the Switch 2 and having it sell like maybe 800k LTD. With no future PC boost in the bag, Capcom is likely going to need a future sales catalyst, Monster Hunter Wilds S2 version with some new content they can include on the PS5/XB/PC side as an exapnsion pack or something could give it a boost.

Terrible performance and no endgame has completely destroyed its momentum. The expansion will still help it to easily hit 20m though. It’s just going to take a while to get the momentum going again.

Speaking of Rise, Capcom should absolutely get their butts in gear and put out a 60fps Switch 2 update for that game; the next game from the portable team is probably still like 2-3 years out, and in the meantime it'd be a great way to keep the Nintendo crowd hooked.

EDIT: Port MH World over while you're at it too, that'd sell millions on Switch 2.
