Do you know how this compares to an average quarter?

This isn't a metric Sony usually talks about iirc. At least, I believe it's only been mentioned perhaps once for the PS4 and once for the PS5. So, it must be significant enough in this case for them to highlight it.

With the PS4 throughout the gen, it was ~like 20-25%, that were new users (I think they mentioned it a few times, in the PS4 era).
With PS5 they have more first time, playstation people.

This has to be new audience, or people from other places (pc, xbox) that moved to playstation.

It was a good quater! Why would anyone downplay this fact?! No need to shit on other persons! Did I shit on anyone when the Switch crushed 150 million in record timing? Yes 9,5 million is very good. It will be the peak quater. The only thing that amuses me is why everyone is giving so much credit to GTA VI. Yes it will probably have the highest launch numbers off all time and the PS5 version will be BY FAR the best selling version (also FAR better than the PC version will be when it launches). But asuming it could drive HW numbers to insane hights when we all know the game is multiplattform to me seems to be a bit wishfull thinking. Its like saying that Xbox would celebrate a huge comeback when we even know MS does not care about hardware anymore! The Series is getting outsold by an 8 years old handheld thats about to be replaced regulary. I think the Series will not even outsell Switch 2 when GTA VI launches! 1 week maximum and even thats being optimistic...

It's not that serious lol. I apologize if that offended.

But you did spin the 9.5 million shipment into a negative by telling someone "but it's still a decline" in an article. It's like you two just can't help yourselves. You tend to interpret or predict or spin everything Playstation negatively.

And you have a habit of misreading posts and making strawman arguments which you're doing it again here. No one said GTA6 will "drive hardware numbers to insane heights" Why do you keep exaggerating and saying things that aren't true? Or do you consider going up year over year "insane heights"?

We had our small talks before about GTA6's impact so I'm not going to repeat myself here and derail the thread. But again, I didn't mean to offend.

Thats fine my friend. I am not falling into a depressive black whole🤣!👍 I am sorry if i offended anyone by "spinning numbers into negative" by mentioning that its still down. In fact we are all console gamers. I just wanted to prevent anyone to be dissapionted if hardware sales increase will be lower than expected. You know i am in gaming since the 80 years. I saw console generatkons come and go. I saw the downfall of Atari, the rise and the downfall from Sega, i saw the hights and the lows from Sony as well as from Nintendo and i am experiencing the downfall of MS. There was always hooing that old systems recover when game X/Y comes out. I experienced it with Super Mario World 2 in 1995 wich did not prevent the SNES fall, i saw it with the N64, we all experienced the sharp decline of Playstation 3, the WiiU is also no stranger to me, like Sony handhelds or even the old Xbox who was not able to dramatically prolong its lifecycle despite Halo 2 was selling ~3.3- 4 million copies day 1, annihilating even Ocarina Of Time's launch. Both where record numbers for that time. There is no "Playstation magic because its the Playstation", in the end of the day its only a console like others. When new hardware comes, old HW goes. PS1 and PS2 where exteeme outliners like the DS/3DS. The 3DS maybe had the best decline curves ever if you look at 2015-2017. But like i said these are expectations. Where the Switch goes we have to see but its not looking that bad. For the PS5 its a bit early. Its in decline but also here we have to wait how things will turm out...

no Astro figures? What a shame! I’m curious to see those holiday numbers. Surely, it’s blasted past 4-5mil at this point.

Also, 9.5mil is solid…i’ll be optimistic and assume this is b/c Astro, and not b/c the pro model.

You think Astro Bot sales blasted past 5M by the end of 2024? Why?

im an optimist lol

after having looked up the definition for “padawan”, all i will say is…perhaps (in that i frequently make pie-in-the-sky projections, so that if they ever do end up correct, I’ll be able to say that I was the only one who saw it coming lol).

We cannot say anything but ~2 million for its first 2 months cannot be called great, sorry. Nevertheless, i think IF Astro Bot's numbers where that huge, Sony would not have been shy telling us.

The fact that Sony announced the 1.5 million sales to me says they do think it's great. Whether it's great or not really depends on the company and what their expectations and or goals for the game were in the first place.

Capcom was very happy when Dragons Dogma 2 sold @3million and it blew past their expectations for the game. A game that was released everywhere day 1.

Square was disappointed that FF16 only sold 3 million on one console. While knowing they could still port it to PC and Xbox.

Astro Bot is one of the best selling games in Brazil lately, at least in physical copies.
6# on Amazon, #4 on Mercado Livre.

Its a difference if Dragon's Dogma, basically a standard game, with barly any hype sold 3 million, wich probably at least barly exceeded expectations and a game that was supposed to be a "Mario Killer". Of course a game, calling itself like that has to sell "a little bit more" that 3 million to even be taken seriously in that field. If i want to be a soccer player on par with Toni Kros, or Ronaldo i have to reach a bit more than only be in the winning team of a school soccer tournament. Adding the fact, that the Studio behind that game just closed does not help convincing everyone about the games sucess.
