It would be funny if they bring Crash, Banjo and Sonic as guest characters

Sega is about to release another Sonic racing game so I doubt it would happen.

It's always sad Sonic needs to drive a car instead of running, yeah, if he was running there would be no competition, but regardless...

Sonic R2 needs to happen someday.

Banjo would be the only logical guest character out of the three 160rmf mentioned.

I have heard many people complain about the graphics of this new Mario Kart based on little bit of footage we have seen. Of course, this isn’t final footage and the final game will look better in a least some ways, but I don’t expect it to look significantly better beyond any DLSS upscaling and that is related to what I think the new gimmick is.

The new gimmick will be related to the 24 racers I think it will be races with teams of 4 people. In Mario Kart 8 you could only play 2 players online per switch. This is because that when you play four player split screen locally the fps goes from 60 to 30. Now if they are being less ambitious with the graphics to achieve 60 fps then you will be able to form one team with yourself and your friends on one switch 2. With 24 racers there will be 6 teams of 4 and if you are by yourself or have 2 or 3 players the match making system will match you with the correct configuration of missing players (Prioritizing 2+2 or 1+3 before adding a bunch of sole players together.). It would also be cool if this could also be done locally with 6 Switches wirelessly connecting with 4 people on every switch.

Also, with 4 player split screen as a focus it would be great if they try to get the as close to a 4K resolution possible without the game taking a hit on fps, then make up the difference with DLSS. I often read on here about people complaining about games not being 60 fps, but I often don’t hear about people complaining about resolution, but with a big TV and split screen resolution can be very important.

Are people willing to make graphical sacrifices for these things? Would the graphics in the teaser explain them trying to get 4 player 60 fps 4K DLSS split screen or would they also try to shoot for native 4K because DLSS would be too noticeable with 4 people looking exclusively on one quarter of the screen. Also, what do you think the gimmick of teams would be; would it be more than just adding up all the place finishing scores?

Judging the graphical prowess of a game according to some brief snippet of gameplay confined to the screen of a device in a YT video (with all the compression and everything) is prolly not a wise move if you ask me. All I’m seeing is 60fps w/ 24 simultaneous racers. Sounds good to me!

The fact they’re even wiling to do 24 racers proves the system is obviously a good deal more powerful than Switch. Switch would be a disaster trying to handle 24 racers on the track with decent performance in MK8D graphics.

The fact that people cant tell its a new MK is really a testament to how great MK8 looks. It was the best looking WiiU game and one of the best looking Switch games.

We’re going off-road. Normally going off track like they do in the trailer slows you down. This time all we see is the karts reacting differently. Better suspension, better handling, faster speeds in the off road sections. Also, joyride mode where you can go wherever you want.

Still strange that Rosalina is using a snowmobile on a track without snow.

One of the people complaining was someone on digital foundry and later I found this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4I6iydbep2M from Sungrand studios, he talked about Mario Kart 9 using physical based shaders that would have caused the switch fps to take a hit, the more varied and higher res textures that make use of the Switch 2 greater amount of RAM. He also talked about its use of Volumetric lighting, draw distance and the quality of shadows. On Digital foundry they barely went over any of that.  Now it was an initial impression and not an analysis video for Digital foundry, but if it is hard for even people known for graphics analysis to notice these things we really have reached the point of diminishing returns.

Now I am wondering if it would be possible to have these effects that wouldn’t be possible on the Switch with a decent frame rate of 60 fps 4 player split screen on Switch 2? It would be great to have the option to race against real people online instead of CPUs if you have 3 or 4 people and a team mode facilitated by the 24 racers would be interesting.

You’re not wrong, but it could just be as simple as Nintendo leaving us crumbs to follow. And in the history of gaming, it won’t be the first time someone went into a race or level with the wrong type of gear for the situation. And who knows, maybe snowmobiles make for great sand hoppers.
