Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Switch 2 officially announced, switch 2 direct 2nd of April

I know the Switch 1 supports up to 2 TB for storage

Hoping Switch 2 will support bigger sizes than that.

And just like that, Mario Kart becomes the top game I'm looking forward to this year.

I'm really interested to see how Nintendo is planning on taking advantage of the joy-cons new mouse capabilities since they're already including it in the marketing. Can't wait to see what Nintendo has in store!

You called down the thunder, now reap the whirlwind

lol, so basically everything leaked especially by that NextHandheld leaker on Reddit right down to Mario Kart being the lead title. The kickstand is exactly the same as the one in the leaked photos. The "leakers aren't reliable!" crowd can eat crow. Mouse capability for the Joycon seems like the main new gameplay addition on top of their social app ("Campus"?).

Sounds like a May launch.

A bit underwhelming marketing wise (I'm not saying system wise, just *marketing* wise) compared to Switch 1's reveal which felt a lot more polished. This feels a bit like something they rushed out because everything was leaking. Maybe they were afraid of even more leaks if they had filmed an actual commercial.

Mario Kart looks like fun though. Nate was also right about what he predicted, the exact date of the reveal + a trailer with only minimal footage of games, so I'd be inclined to believe whatever he has to say. He took a lot of shit but was correct.

Agreed.  Perhaps I'm just feeling like devil's advocate right now based on the few seconds we saw.

Understandable going by their history.

WiiU was not a good successor (or a good system in general) - hopefully this will not be the case with Switch 2 lol.

Oh no, not expecting anything like that for the system or the games in general at all.  We know the tech is a big jump over the current Switch and I'm sure the future will be bright for Switch 2 and MK.

On second thought, it's not impossible that it could be released as early as May; there were 'Switch Experience' equivalents after the console launched, too. ~ 2-ish months from the direct seems about right.

That was such a Nintendo-like reveal trailer- playful and quirky. They are a toy company, not a consumer electronics company. As a player I am happy it's "just" a more powerful Switch, but the industry enthusiast in me felt a brief moment of disappointment that they didn't throw another crazy idea at us. Just a brief moment though.

Hopefully we'll see more games than Mario Kart on 2025.02.04 whenever that is, thanks to America insisting on jumbling the date order unlike how the rest of the world has it.

I salute you, good sir!

This. Why would you showcase your new and more powerful hardware with a Mario Kart game that looks almost identical to MK8. I thought it was MK8 until the posters in here pointed out a few differences

Games with this art style will not get major visual upgrades that are instantly noticeable without side by side comparisons.

I don't think thats true by default, it just takes some intentional ambition to push them to the next level and move from gamey visuals to pixar feeling CGI. One thing I was hoping for a glimpse of was per object motion blur.... but its too early to critique any games, it was just few seconds on a small screen.

A 24-player Mario Kart with (presumably) 4K-ish DLSS graphics seems like a generational leap to me. Especially after the gimped visuals of the MKT circuit ports.
