Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Switch 2 officially announced, switch 2 direct 2nd of April

If those specs are true, Handheld mode is much better than PS4 - Ampere is vastly superior to GCN1.

Not sure if that 1007,3 MHz in Docked is fixed, or it can boost further - i.e., weakest 3050 (with 2304 CUDA cores) has core clock of 1042MHz, but it can boost up to 1470MHz, so maybe SW2 can do that as well.

It's definitely beyond a Pro model hardware wise.

From the leaked clocked speeds and knowing it has 1536 CUDA cores as an example the OG Switch was 153 GFLOPS undocked, this is 1.7 TFLOPS undocked, that's over a 10x uplift from where the Switch started at.

An 8x-10x performance boost is pretty large, the PS5 is about 6x over the PS4.

Ampere has doubled FP32 units counting as a full 'CUDA core' compared to Maxwell or a GCN SM.

It has 50% better IPC than Maxwell and 100% better IPC than GCN but if you compare these architectures by FLOPS the Ampere numbers have to be divided by two if you want to extrapolate it to raster performance.

Hence, it should be quite comparable to the previous generation with those clock numbers in handheld mode while falling a bit short of the PS4 Pro in docked mode. Granted, it has DLSS and extra RAM to more than make up for it.

If you doubt me just take an RTX 3050 review, shave 60-80% of the results, and see where that lands you.

Basically PS4 level (+) in handheld but 25% below the XSS

how much you wanna bet at Nintendo Switch 2 Pro will be revealed on Christmas Day 2028? (this is relevant to your comment since I think a pro system would send NSW2 up to XBSX graphics.)

But its close, the reveal would be after Xenoblade release then a couple of weeks we would have the direct. I am not complaining, it is a good tatic to shut up the leakers and beggars to then continue with their schedule promoting the remaining games for Switch: DK January; Pokemon Legends February; Xenoblade March

lol, people are going to talk more about Switch 2 now, not less. I don't think Pokemon Legends is even making February. DK Returns and Xenoblade X ... no offense to people who are fans of those games, but that's like nothing housekeeping for Nintendo. A port of low selling Wii U game and a DK game they needed to throw out there because of the theme parking opening of the DK area.

I would not be surprised if there is something else for the Switch 2 between now and April 2nd. For the Switch they had a big appearance of the system on Jimmy Fallon in December 2016 before the big January Switch 1 Nintendo Direct.

They can talk, but theres not so much you could bring to table with a 2 min trailer.

It is now Nintendo who is controlling the news, not the leakers. The only thing that remain for us is follow their pace regarding Switch2

We reap what we sow

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Nintendo struck gold with the hybrid form factor and there was no need to jeopardize the system's chances of success by gambling on some crazy new gimmick.

That being said, the mouse-con is a cool new feature, and as always I am sure Nintendo's first party software will come up with creative and innovative experiences as they always do.

I don't think I've ever been so, "oh", about console announcement in my life. I will say most of that is because, if it was my choice, there would be no new consoles until like 2029 lol. For Nintendo, Switch 2 is the successor to Switch but this really just seems to be a Switch PRO. A more powerful Switch and that only matters to certain group of gamers.

EDIT: I think PRO consoles have sort of ruined the next console just being more powerful exciting to me.

Using that argument, you could say the PS5 is basically a Pro version of the PS4 Pro since a lot of recent games (Horizon 2, God of War Ragnarok) also came out on both systems and majority of the library is cross platform between the two.

If the GPU/CPU upgrades are not as significant and we see games coming out across Switch 1 and 2 , then I would call it a Pro version of the Switch, too early to tell right now with no official information (though I find it hard to believe they would do cross gen releases).

I don't know. A Switch 2 Pro is deffentily in the cards but IF it comes i think it could be 2029. Christmas day? 12.25.2028? Deffinitly not. XBSX graphics? No, but XSS is definitly realistic for a potentionally Switch 2 Pro in 2029 if you ask me... but first the system needs to launch. After we see how it does, we can make further asumptions.

There's more than 12 racers in the mario kart clip at the end. Not sure the exact number, but definitely more than usual.

at one point it showed 16 racers.
If you count the starting positions it shows upto 24 starting spots.
(if all those can be used, it means potentially 24 people playing the same track)

Point and click adventure games
4X strategy games
Real-time strategy games (maybe less so this)
Tower Defense games

I could see a lot of old (and newer) point and click PC games, come to the Switch 2 because of the mouse-con alone.
And most of these types of games are very kid-friendly games. So it's something Nintendo would fully support imo.

Maybe some Civilization type games, or City Skylines and such.... make use of the mouse function too.

Where do you put the mouse, on your thigh?

You ever try to play a PC strategy game like that? with your mouse on your thigh?

The "mouse" option is not for "on the go", those games you will want a table in front of you, with a surface you can use the mouse on.

A bit off topic, but how do the leaked specs / presumed performance compare to this?

Those are the minimum specs for Rebirth on PC.

I think Switch 2 is said to have 12 GB of RAM, but I'm not sure how the CPU and GPU compare to the ones listed above.
Definitely not getting Rebirth for Switch 2, as this is a game I want to look and run as good as possible, but it'd be nice for Switch-only owners to be able to play it.

I think both the CPU and GPU here (mentioned as the minimum req. for 1080p/30fps) are stronger than the rumored Switch 2's.
If that's for native 1080p low @30fps.... maybe there is a chance.

Switch 2 would just have to run below 1080p low settings.... like 720p and upscale to 1080p with dlss ?
