Just Finished: Balatro (PS5)

Fuck this game. I started hearing rumbles about how good this game was since the end of last year. It was recently given away as a monthly PS Plus game. I was curious so I gave it a try. At first I didn't see what all the fuss was about. I do like playing poker in real life. This game is like poker on crack. Eventually the game started to click and I became obsessed about at least completing one run. Several hours later I realized I had become addicted. I even installed the game on my PS4 so I would have access it to when I booted up that console, I didn't even mind that the save info or trophies did not carry over between the two versions. Eventually I had sunk so much time that I deleted the game from both consoles to stop myself from playing. Of course I could easily re-download the game but I tried hard to quite cold turkey. Unfortunately when I upgraded to PS Plus Premium for a few months during Days of Play sale I was given the ability to stream the game without downloading. I have since put more hours into this game than GTA V, Bully, and BOTW and several other games besides GT7 and COD. I am not close to finishing everything this game has to offer, but I have played enough to understand how great, addictive, and innovative it is. I can see how in the future they will release a sequel with new cards and mechanics. I can also see this game getting the Tetris Effect and Lumines Arise treatment to get a version that has more impressive audiovisual presentation. I regret all the time I spent on this game.

Score: 9/10

Yeah, Balatro is crazy addictive. Played it for like 300 hours in a little over a month.

Death Stranding - Mixed feeling about this game.
Gears 1 and 2 - Still great games.
Stalker 2 - One of the best games this generation.
COD WW2 - Best COD in a long time.
Ninja Gaiden Black 2 - Good game but controls are clunky at times.
Expedition 33 - Great game overall.
Castlevania order of ecclesia - Good game as well.

Why not the switch remake of Links Awakening? Why the NSO version?

I plan to play the remake in the future for sure.

I just like going back to older versions of games especially with enhancements like the NSO version has (Save state, rewind, etc).

Just another "beaten/finish" game to put on my belt.
