Forums - Movies & TV - Best/Favourite film of 2024

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga to be honest (9/10). I actually enjoyed it more than Fury Road.

I was expecting my favourite film of 2024 to be Dune: Part Two, but I was a little bit disappointed by it (8/10; I gave the first film an incredibly rare 10/10), so it's second on my list.

I plan on watching The Wild Robot in the next few days, so I'll see if that makes my top 3. At the moment my third favourite is probably Alien: Romulus (8/10), much to my surprise, as I really didn't like the trailer (made it look like 'Gen Z vs Alien', which it is a little bit, but its strengths elsewhere make up for that).

There’s a lot of movies I wanted to see this year that I haven’t. So I’ll say Wicked for now but I’m hoping to catch Sonic and Wild Robot soon.

Leaving the theatre after watching Sonic 3:

Flow

Dune Part 2 was a crazy emotional experience for me. I’ve been known to shed a tear or two at a really good ending, but this movie had me bawling throughout. Partly because some of the scenes are just so gut wrenching, but mostly because I couldn’t believe this story was finally being told in the proper way. Can’t wait to see how Villeneuve adapts Messiah.

I also really enjoyed The Wild Robot. Gave me Wall-E vibes and was just mostly hilarious and heartwarming throughout.

2023’s movie experiences really burned me and I’m a little gunshy about venturing to the theatre to spend another $15-$20 to sit through two disappointing hours so I honestly didn’t go to the theatre much this year. We’ll see if 2025 changes that, but I don’t have too much hope.

Thanks for the reminder for Dune pt. 2, just bought the 4K blu-ray of Amazon now. Looks like I'm in for a treat :)
(Loved part 1, but ended a bit abruptly)

The Wild Robot is under the Christmas tree 'for the kids', should be great to all watch together.

Other than that, I watched Alien Romulus on 4K blu-ray, which looked and sounded really good. So I guess that's my favorite for now as the only 2024 movie I remember having watched lol.

Haven't watched much films, Alien Romulus I suppose but I binged a fair bit of TV here and there and as someone else mentioned above, Shogun is the best film media from this year, I was blown away by how engrpssing it was and how finely detailed they made the culture and period appear even down to a random Earthquake or the way women float walk, it deserves Game Of Thrones levels of appraise. I was not familiar with this period of really early European arrival on the island and it's one that deserves more light shined on it in media, in the political sphere, hopefully in character action video game form.

Just watched The Substance, such an over rated piece of garbage. I was expecting the Fly or The Thing but there is literally no story attached to the film, just a structure to hold the body horror aspect. Great visuals, really well shot but quite literally all it is and since there is no story or characterization, you have fuck all empathy for the character and it looses all sense of horror in the process. I think this might be the first in the genre where I didn't feel a tad bit squeamish cause it's so blatantly obvious that it's all fake because the whole point of the film is about fake beauty, fake sets, fake sense of reality and it does not work at all. Absolute pretentious nonsense.
