Naughty Dog visits SpaceX

Uncharted developer gets tour of Elon Musk's private aerospace company for reasons unknown.

Oct 31, 2013

Uncharted and The Last of Us developer Naughty Dog recently got a tour of Elon Musk's private aerospace company SpaceX, according to tweets from employees at the game company.

"Naughty Dog touring SpaceX!" wrote artist David Ballard, who attached an image of the SpaceX building to his tweet.

Meanwhile, Naughty Dog developer Jason Paul said, "I'm going to space!" with an image of the SpaceX office.

SpaceX is headquartered in Hawthorne, California, which is about a 20-minute trip from Naughty Dog's offices in Santa Monica.

It is unclear if Naughty Dog's trip to SpaceX was purely recreational or if the studio used its time there to conduct research for an upcoming project. The developer is currently working on an unannounced PlayStation 4 game.

Post from Neil Druckmann:

We’re back! You have been dying to know what’s next for us, and I’m thrilled to finally be able to answer: Naughty Dog’s next game is Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, currently in development for the PlayStation 5 console. We’ve been working on this brand-new adventure since 2020! This game is shaping up to be our wildest, most creative story yet. If you haven’t already, check out the announcement trailer

Intergalactic stars our newest protagonist, Jordan A. Mun, a dangerous bounty hunter who ends up stranded on Sempiria – a distant planet whose communication with the outside universe went dark hundreds of years ago. In fact, anyone who’s flown to it hoping to unravel its mysterious past was never heard from again. Jordan will have to use all her skills and wits if she hopes to be the first person in over 600 years to leave its orbit.

Beyond that, we’re keeping everything about the story under wraps – at least for now. What we can tell you is that this game lives up to the Naughty Dog tradition of creating an emotional, character-driven epic journey. Our narrative goals are rivaled only by our gameplay ambitions. This will be the deepest gameplay in Naughty Dog’s history, taking our learnings from our previous franchises and pushing them beyond anything we’ve ever done before.

Jordan is played by the talented Tati Gabrielle, who leads a stellar cast (pun intended!). Eagle-eyed players might spot some of the other cast members in the trailer. We’ll reveal more of our ensemble down the line.

Our incredible voyage into the cosmos also needs an equally incredible soundtrack. As tremendous fans of their work, I’m excited to announce our collaboration with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross who’ll be scoring Intergalactic! The guys are cooking, and the trailer is just a small tease of their work for the game.

We know you’re eager for more – and trust us, we’re very eager to share more with you. For now, though, it’s time to put our heads back down and keep cranking away on Jordan’s adventure.

On behalf of the entire team at Naughty Dog, thank you to all our fans! Your support allows us to work on our dream games, bringing these wonderful new worlds and characters to life. We can’t wait to show you more!

See you on the other side,

Neil Druckmann

They ruined not only the essence of Ciri but that of the Witcher too. They Brought anger into it, too much emotion and while Ciri is emotional she is not loved because she's some hard ass, anger fueled Kratos like character. I Don't like it but I'll be cautiously optimistic with this. Quests where ciri will interact with people with anger or other emotions will ruin the vibe, as I believe it the trial of the grasses is supposed to remove all emotion but Geralts actor got it right, just enough emotion but it a very subdued way. The relaxed indifferent nature of him, made him badass, no need for anger. I hope they come to realise this through during production and this was perhaps a mistake on a cinematic studio that didn't understand the tone like the cinematics leading up to TW3 got the designs all wrong but since they got the tone correct.... aw man, I'm not feeling good about this at all. I understand they have to neuter her powers and all and make her grounded but this doesn't look like a ciri that had much interaction or training from Geralt in the time since TW3, which makes sense cause I think her pendant was of the cat school but IDK if this was the way to bring Ciri in and damn, I do love her character, I really hope they haven't misunderstood and ruined it.

As Visimer says "I've trained smarter, faster and stronger but none had her character". As we get to know adult Ciri in TW3 we get to see this character and it's one that should be maintained, not altered. She's perfect as she was. Picking up right from the ending where geralt gives her the sword, or a few months after and Geralt puts her through the trial of the grasses at Kaer Morhan May be much simpler and safer but dammit, it's what they should have done. Follow Ciri on a journey and THEN progress her character arc along the way, even if that leads to an anger fueled, Kratos like character but we'd see it unfold at least.

Ciri, in the books, is described as an innocent child who becomes basically a villain with good intentions, Daenerys-style, so I'd be glad that they recovered some of that characterization compared to the whitewashed version in TW3.

Maybe they can retcon it as Geralt's fatherly memories of Ciri seeing only what he wanted to see in her, IDK.

I feel it makes complete sense either way.

Geralt tries to supress his emotion but he isn't emotionless, apparently in the books he shows anger quite often. Pretty sure Geralt would be a bit pissed at people pointlessly sacrificing an innocent lady, he just wouldn't show it. Witcher's actually having emotions is shown multiple times, this whole "stripped of emotions" is a myth and played up by Geralt to seclude himself from normal life and be seen as nothing but a cold blooded killing machine because that's good for his job but he's lying to himself.

Geralt has been trained since very young and had much longer to trick himself into this emotionless nonsense, Witcher's are trained through childhood and moulded into teenage years and adulthood into the perfect killing machines. Ciri on the other hand is becoming a Witcher when she has already basically reached adulthood, that will have an impact on how she displays emotions versus others.

I think of it like the Halo Spartans, who are kidnapped children, they've known nothing but their training, they've known nothing except fight, they've supressed their emotions for all their life already, so when they reach adulthood they are far better than others at supressing emotions but it doesn't mean they have none, Ciri is someone who has already experienced the full range of these emotions for half of her life, it will be a lot harder for her to supress them than someone indoctrinated through childhood.

Also talking shit about the Gods totally seems like a Geralt thing to say so she's learning from her "father"

I'm just curious how they in-lore explain her nerfing, I reckon something like the augments interfere with her powers.

They changed all that with Tw3, doesn't matter what the books say, this is their universe, their version of Ciri and they, hopefully not, seem to be misunderstanding why people love Ciri in TW3 and to that matter why Geralts subdued indifferent tone works so well for side quests and character interaction in really grounded, high stakes scenarios.

Yes, but that's the key. The fact that he seems indifferent but his actions say otherwise and you can see hints of emotion, his VA actors does it so brilliantly. It makes him one of the greatest hero characters ever and I'm taking about CDPRs version.

Ironically a pleasant show.

Didnt care for the awards, anyways...

Intergalactic, as nostalgia baity as it seems to be, if it's a character action game by Naughty Dog I'm all in. As long as time is spent on the ground with that sword and not in space I can't see any reason why they wouldn't bring their genre elevating talent to this. Yeah, the character looks bland as hell but I can get past that. There's room for Dante or 2B and there's room for skin head space pirates as long as she's doing cool shit and they add in potential with cosmetics, she'll do fine.
