Forums - Sony Discussion - FF7 Rebirth Sales Aren't Bad - PlayStation Partner Awards

Square just has the highest expectation for their Final Fantasy games

It's because previous games have sold 7+ million. On top of that this a remake of the most popular Final Fantasy. The original PS1 version sold 9.8 million WW and 4 million of that is just Japan. The FF7 Remake is at 7 million, with Rebirth probably around 3.5 million currently.

Genshin Impact complete domination, deservedly.

Worth noting: Top three best-selling *PlayStation* games. Not much competition tbf. It’s definitely not flopping as hard as SquEnix is leading on, though it’s certainly not moving anything crazy.

lol.. most games releases on playstation, especially from Asia. Your point makes 0 sense.

The problem is that SquareEnix is hoping for a 20 million selling game like Nintendo, Rockstar and a few others have, but it's not going to happen anytime soon. They need to get things together and fix creative issues at their company, because their biggest franchise, which is Final Fantasy, has been only made to appeal to western markets instead of being original, creative games like they used to be some 15 years ago, and it's clearly not working for them. They have not yet gotten over the fact that they're not one of the greats anymore.

(i) PlayStation is nowhere near as popular in Asia as PC nor Nintendo. (ii) The intent of my OP was clarification. There was no opinion, just clarifying that the data presented wasn't referring to WW sales data, but specifically Asia.

I just need a release on switch 2 when I get it or Xbox series x as I'm about Nintendo and Xbox fan no ps I own the original which is better I think on switch and Xbox though lol

Well compare the profit margin of DQ 3-HD to FFXVI...

Time to get back to the beginning and do some turn based FF main games.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

It's all relative. We kind of already know its around 3.5-4m WW at least which is not bad but definitely not in line with expectations since the it's legs are essentially dead and its rarely charting.

Essentially SE needs to explore ways to reach new audiences with FF because the last 3 entries including VII Rebirth sell 70% of their sales week one and then fall off pretty hard.

I thihk is fine for a franchise which is growing and/or made on a budget, but FF games are not cheap and the audience is shrinking.

Multiplatform is one route but if the franchise is shrinking in the playstation echo-system whilst other IPs are growing, that painst a franchise specific problem.

I've yet to play FF16 as FF13 was a big dissapointment and whilst I liked FF15 it was clearly a hot unfinished mess on launch (when I played it, not gone back to the finished version), I can't imagine I'm alone with this kind of thinking.

As for FF7 I'm waiting until all 3 games are released to take the plunge then I'll play them all back to back.

That sounds like my worst nightmare honestly. The games have great cut off points to me and while I was going to do what you're planning on doing I'm glad I didn't. Playing all 3 games is just to much of the same game for to long for me. The first two is already like 120 hours.
