I hope it works, they every right to protect their ips and games. None of them are in public domain yet.

I love when multitrillion yen companies ruin ppls lives over pirating their $60 products!! Nintendo will surely never recover from these pirates' endeavor. :( Hopefully justice is served, and Nintendo is saved!

Ah, the ol' one-percent-is-evil thing.

So I suppose if Nintendo were an up-and-coming, small indie team of five guys, it would be okay for them to try and shut down the theft of their IP. Is that correct? Would you be supportive of that? Because that's how your post reads. That if you don't have lots of money and success, you can protect your IP. But if, through hard work and great decision-making, you happen to become successful and make a lot of money, you void that right. Your IP should be stolen whenever thieves want to steal it, because you deserve it... you bunch of stupid rich people with tons of money!

Wrong! If a small indie team decided to file multimillion dollar lawsuits on an individual, then that small indie dev team will recieve from me the same exact criticism which I have already levied out against Nintendo here. It's not that complicated. Heck, if some average person stole smth from a person making $50k/year, and the $50k/year dude responds with a multimillion dollar lawsuit, then I'm gonna call that $50k/year dude out on being a complete sociopath lol. (Though if a big business were to rob that person making $50k/year...oh wait. They already do that on the daily.)

So in other words, no one is allowed to defend themselves from theft, and all devs should just suck it up when you want something for free.

Methinks you underestimate the amount of money that goes around in businesses like these, and the amount of money that is lost due to piracy.

Also, it's not like Nintendo can unilaterally decide the fines. That's what the courts do. If you have problems with that, you should be barking up that tree instead.

Poor ppl have the right to steal entertainment products so long as they take it from billion-dollar corpos. Law is only there to protect the poor. Rich peeple or corpos don't apply.

No, the law is there to protect everyone. Being poor doesn't give you special privileges or entitle you to take what doesn't belong to you. This notion that poor = virtuous and rich = evil is a load of rubbish.

Wrong! "So in other words, no one is allowed to defend themselves from theft" is a what some may call a "strawman". If a country launches a missile into another country, that doesn't give the victim country the moral right to launch a nuke in retaliation. Analogously, I don't believe anybody should ever have their life ruined over a petty crime. It's insanity that this even need to explained. It is not justice for Nintendo to taking 20% of Gary Bowser's paycheck for the rest of his days, after having sent him to jail: This is a cruel punishment intended to serve as an example for others not to replicate his behavior, not "justice" for the victim.

Piracy (or any petty crime) should not recieve a near-death sentence. Why is this such a controversial statement? $1mil to the average person is 20y worth of the average American's paycheck.

What did I miss? Is Nintendo suing 200,000 Reddit users for $1 million each? $200 trillion lawsuit?

All I get from the source is that Nintendo is looking for accomplishes to James “Archbox” Williams by requesting info on aliases and other sites he has been active on. Nintendo goes after those profiting from piracy. They're not going after the avg Reddit user or sue people that have downloaded a ROM.

What's with all the hyperbole...

Bit rough. But you do the crime, you need to deal with the consequences.

(better not be talkin bout me with hyperbole. I'm arguing against Nintendo's most recent behavior of filing life-changing lawsuits against individuals...like suing every Reddit user $10mil each (not just $1mil!).)

In the USA, a bad injury or sickness if you go to the wrong hospital out of your network can be 20 years worth of American paychecks.  I fully support Nintendo to do what they wish with their product.  If you don't like it, don't download their games.

Lol i need to just stop reading responses here...why on earth are you using America's outrageously expensive medical system as an example to defend Nintendo's lawsuit frenzy as of recent????
