Forums - Gaming Discussion - S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2: Heart of Chornobyl

Played about 3 hours now, still very early. Initial impressions are good, it's hard, like it's supposed to be. There was one area where I crashed two times to desktop upon loading, but otherwise there aren't any major, obvious issues that I've come across yet (still early, though, as mentioned). There are smaller issues, such as your flashlight being turned off every time you load your game, or the actual loading times of the game itself (I don't think those with slower SSDs than mine will have a good time with that).

The atmosphere is amazing, and I like the gunplay, even this early on. Combat lacks a little weight, but is satisfying. Fighting humans is much more fun, but there have been minor issues with the AI (stuck in a "loop" of path when looking for/taking cover, for instance).

I don't regret buying it day one, I was prepared for some jank in the beginning. As I've said; this has the making of a future hit once things get ironed out. It's refreshing with a shooter that isn't afraid to kill you time and time again already at the start of the game. I have to go to bed now, and I have work tomorrow, but I'll be putting in many hours this weekend for sure!

Publishers are dumb. If you know a game has technical issues but a day one patch will fix most of them, why set the review embargo for before the game releases and knowing almost all of the reviewers will be playing a broken glitchy version of the game? lol

Reading impressions, outside of the technical issues everyone is having, game seems really good.

Told my wife to boot up my PC to start installing the game lol. By the time we put our toddler down for the night, it's between 8:30-9pm, and I ain't waiting till nearly midnight to play!

You called down the thunder, now reap the whirlwind

Oh well, I already knew it wasn't going to run well, but it's unplayable on a GTX 1060, despite it being in the minimum requirements.

My 5 year old gaming laptop can not run this over 20 fps (running at 10 to 20 fps) with huge input lag and stutters. Everything is on low, what can be turned off is off, 1280x720, looks worse than the 2007 game :/

Not made to scale.

Guess I'll wait for it to come to PS5 with all the fixes. PS5 Pro should be able to handle this. My kid can play the steam version (3060 gaming pc)
I'm going back to the Burning Shores (Horizon FW)

From what me trying to get the game to run showed me:

- Controls suck, not made for PC.
- Why is it recompiling shaders every time I restart the game.

On a 1060

Can't even read what button to press!

The atmosphere is there, definitely want to keep playing but it's hurting my brain.

I'm not going to refund it, my kid can play it on my account. Gonna see how it runs on his PC later. I'll wait for a PS5 (Pro) port.

Almost 6,000 user reviews on Steam and the rating has gone up to 80% Very Positive. It looks like the day 1 patch did some real good here overall.

I’ve read some content creator reviews claiming the game is in as rough a shape as CP2077 was at worst, the game is a couple of patches away from being in a complete state.

Could it have used more time in the oven? Definitely. But making disingenuous claims like that is putting off so much work the devs put into the game. Given their circumstances, it’s a miracle this game is even out.

Yeah, I'm not holding bugs against this game at launch. Knowing some of the development troubles, plus the fact that it's an open world game from a small studio, it's something that I expected. As long as they keep supporting it, I will be satisfied.

Not buying the game now, though, since so many titles will be on sale soon and a few patches will do it good.

Oooof. Considering Ukriane and if I remember this developer correctly it's great they got it out at all but... ooof, what I've seen so far is terrible. Aside from technical mishaps I don't get the decision to create foliage that looks like someone upped the saturation, sharpness and contrast well past what looks reasonable, it so sickening to look at and I see more games doing it, specifically high end settings on PC. God I hope this stays clear of console or I'll have to give up gaming.

Looking at the Steam forum, plenty people have problems with a 3060 as well :/

I rather wait a year to let the devs finish the game first. Apart from technical issues there are also many progress bugs reported and other permanent glitches that can end up in your save.

It's on Gamepass so I can always check it out on Series X as well. But as people recommend a 4090 for this game, PS5 Pro might be the minimum lol.

It's looking very choppy on Series X and nothing is going on yet (footage starts at 1:10)

Play at 30fps in quality mode, or buy a VRR TV to play in performance mode (seems max 50fps)

Oh I've seen enough clips to know the game is a shit show but it doesn't look like "a 2007 game at less than 20fps", you could have it looking and running a lot better, it'll still be junk and the grass will still be sickening, maybe more sickening but it won't be that bad. Just save often.
